I have a Dell Dimension 2400 that I am running dual monitors on. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 professional from Windows XP and now I can't get both monitors to run at the same time. I have a Nvdia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card that I am using to run dual monitors but when I am using the graphics card, I can't use the monitor connected to built in port. When I switch the graphics controller to motherboard, the built in port works but not my graphics card. Please help!

You should have 2 video ports on the 8400 GS card. One is the standard 15 pin VGA port and the other is the DVI port. You should be able to use these ports on the card to connect dual monitors. If you use the video port integrated on the motherboard you will bypass the 8400 GS card. Here's a link from Microsoft about running dual displays:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/organization/twomonitors.aspx
The other issue is whether your monitors are DVI compatible.

Testimonial: "That worked, thank you so much."

Dell dimension 2400 network adapter driver

The Dell Dimension 2400 drivers are available here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/dimension-2400 . Use another computer to visit the site and make sure that Microsoft XP shows in the OS search drop down. Expand the section labeled Network. The wired network adapter is a Broadcom 4401. The direct link to the latest driver (V. 3.63 released 8/5/2003) page is http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/dimension-2400?driverId=R64645&osCode=WW1&fileId=2731129724&languageCode=en&categoryId=NI .

A more recent driver for XP is available from Broadcom at: http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/4401.php . Select the driver for the 32-bit version for XP.

I hope this helps.

After a virus infected my Dell dimension 2350 (XP), I replaced the hard drive with one running Windows 7. After increasing my RAM, I still have some serious resolution problems on my Samsung 172N moni

Hey Tim,.
Once you installed Windows 7 onto the hard drive you would need to have installed the drivers. The one driver that is needed for resolution is the video card. You can right click on the desktop and then choose screen ressolution to see if you can change the resolution. Unfortunately, Dell does not have any Windows 7 drivers for the Dimension 2350 system.

Thank You,

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

Operating system OEM software disk needed.

Go on Ebay and purchase a Windows XP OS Disk with OEM number there. Make sure its Original and not someone's copy. I use WIndows XP Professional myself.

Do I need to upgrade my video card before using a Dell 24 inch monitor with a Dell Dimension 2400

Technically, no.

However you probably won't be able to use your monitor's maximum resolution unless you do. However, if you don't you'll still be able to see the video. I recommend trying it without upgrading first and see if what you have currently supports your monitor's resolution. If you don't like the available resolutions, then you can upgrade.

I need to reinstall window xp pro on my dell dimension 2400-

If you don't need any files currently on the computer, boot from your Windows XP disc, have it delete the current partition and then format the new partition, and install windows XP.
Note: this will delete anything you currently have on the computer at this time!
