How do i find out the year my pentax k1000 was made?

Hi Joy,

The folks over at Pentax Forums had the same questions. They created a database with information that they could obtain from their member's K1000 cameras. This is not an official list - but just what some folks cobbeled together on their own. You can download it from their page, here.

From what I can tell, there were people that purchased K1000 with lower and higher serial mumbers than yours in 1986 (s/n 7785273) and 1987 (s/n 7817712). That indicates yours was was likely manufactured about the same time.

I hope this helps!

I have a Pentax k1000, and was given a few vivitar and olypus lenses. They do not fit the camera. What can I do?????

Vivitar makes lenses with a variety of mounts. Lenses with the Pentax K-mount can be used on the K1000, lenses with other mounts can not.

Olympus lenses will not mount onto a Pentax camera.

You can sell the lenses, give them to someone with the appropriate camera(s), or use them as paperweights.

My Pentax K1000 ser. # is 6636745. Can you tell me what year and where it was made?

Nothing official mind you- but some folks on the pentaxforums.com put in all their K1000 info and one of the admins complied said info and came up with their own chart.

http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-film-slr-discussion/51190-k1000-serial-number-database.html

if their information is true then your camera would have been manufactured between 1977?-1982

run From To years manufactured
1 7 5xx xxx 7 7xx xxx 1976 - 1978?
2 6 0xx xxx 6 9xx xxx 1977? - 1982
3 7 0xx xxx 7 4xx xxx 1982 - 1983
4 7 8xx xxx 8 4xx xxx 1984 - 1989?
5 4 xxx xxx 5 6xx xxx 1989? - 1997

Missing battery cap

I lost the battery cap of my K1000 on vacation...I replaced the battery and taped it snugly in place with a bandaid. It hasn't budged in a year! Just find a good strong tape and tape over the battery.

Will no longer recognize 4gb sd cards

are you sure the camera is a Pentax K1000.
the K1000 is a manual 35mm film camera, the only electronics in it are for the light meter. plus a circuit for the flash connections.

Black bar on rt. side of photos.

elockepens

is this black bar on all the time or only when using flash? if only when using flash then your shutter speed is to high. for flash on the K1000 the shutter speed must be 1/60th sec. or slower.
if the black bar is there all the time then the shutter must be adjusted, cleaned and lubed.take or send your K1000 to a camera repair shop for an estimate first as there are no new part available,
