Look for bad caps with domed tops, similar to the 17" model:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VA702b_s/

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I have this same problem, in fact, i've had this problem on and off for the past year. Randomly, the monitor would stay on for a period of time, then go blank again. Now, however, I cannot get it to stay lit at all. Weird that you and others have this same problem.

Monitor goes white.

if the monitor turn white but the power light is stay on with green, then probably the back light tube was defective, and it will happen randomly in beginning and getting worse after while.

Stupid padlock/main menu keeps opening and closing DELLe152fp

That is the OSD (On Screen Display) system built-in to your computer monitor. Check that when you hit the ON/OFF button on your monitor, that you do *NOT* hit the 'OSD ON/OFF' button.

Most of the time, the OSD will disappear after 10 seconds of "non-use".

My monitor will randomly turn on or off...

Hello there:
what you will need to do is boot the machine into bios setup screen and look under the section where you see the video graphics section and click on it now look to see if it says agp or pci it should be set to your type of a video card either pci or agp if it is set to pci and you have a agp type card than switch it to agp or you can do vice versa and see which one works the best for your system ok?
Tthan simply save settings and reboot.
this should take care of the problem.

Monitor restarting randomly

Rarely does a monitor go out due to drivers. Try another monitor and verify that it isn't the computer (it isn't). If the power light goes out it is the power supply (usually inside) the monitor. If the light stays on, it will most likely be the backlight power unit. Browse the internet for the model and parts. Newer units are difficult to find.

Laptop monitor goes black

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time

I hope this helps.

Hitachi CML174SXW B randomly goes black

Have you noticed if the monitor gets hot before it turns off?

Please, don't open a monitor and try to repair it yourself. It can be very dangerous and it's not worth getting injured.
