The drum is the part of the printer that the image of what you want to print is stored on by a laser drawing on that drum. That drum is then charged with an electrostatic shock that will draw up toner particles from your toner tray that will eventually be transferred to a piece of paper that will be heated to fuse the ink particles on the paper. That drum is photo sensitive and eventually looses its ability to be charged. You will then have to replace that drum.

In the display is the text "drum end " is there a problem with my printer

No. It is common that the drum will reach the end of life at some point. You MIGHT (I dont know if you can for this model or not. I can not find any documents stating that you could or could not) be able to clean the drum. I suggest to contact Konica Minolta if that is possible. If not you will have to purchase a new drum that will work for your model.

I have provided a link below to the supplies for your model from the manufacture.

I still receive the error message "Replace Drum", "Drum End Soon", "Drum Near End", or "Drum Stop" after I replace the drum unit with a new one.

did you do the reset procedure? if not it's in your owners manual under the section "replacing the consumables".

Message - "Drum End Soon".

I don't know what country you are located in, and please don't say. I would suggest you can find drums where Brother Printers are sold or from the Brother web site. When you get to the store, you can discuss installation issues with the salesman. Same could be said about making your purchase at the Brother Web site. Start by looking here: http://www.brother-usa.com/SiteSearch.aspx?sk=DCP-7040

I am certain you can find full particulars concerning sources and installation if you look in the manual found at the link I provided to you. (You may have to select a different country ... the link is for North America/English)

I rec'd a fax this morning w/ a 2" solid black line on the right hand column. I also noticed that the screen reads "drum end soon." Are those two things related? And, what is "drum...

print out an internal report of some kind from the control panel. if line/band is still there, then drum most likely is the problem. sometimes however, that band can originate from the sending fax. "drum end soon" means your drum has come close to the 17,000 prints it is rated for and you need to get a DR110 drum unit. the drum unit is what your 4 toners sit in.

Drum end soon, what does that mean

It means that the drum will end soon. The drum is the piece that holds the printer cartridge. It costs about 115+ dollars at the store, but on ebay, you can get it for a good 60 bucks. :)
