A DVD burned with Studio 10.8 plays on our stand alone DVD player, but it won't play on our computer.

I have a new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. I am using Pinnacle Studio 10.8 to transfer our VHS home movies to DVD. I have been using DVD-R discs. The discs will play on our stand alone DVD player, however, they don't play on our computer.

I need to get these discs to play on a computer. Our children will want to watch our old home movies on their computers!

Maybe you could try some other free DVD player programs such as Leawo Blu-ray Player, which is a free 4K and region free player. It can play any Blu-ray and DVD discs that you want, Also, it supports a lot of video and audio file formats.

Why wont dvd's play

1. your device is not a 'DVD-ROM' device, nor a 'CD-RW/DVD-ROM' combo device.
2. you need software, such as the free 'VLD' software, to decode the DVD, and to "play" the video.
3. your DVD-disk is scratched -- will it play in some other computer or stand-alone DVD-player?

BurnRdeluxe. just installed, how do i burn a dvd

if you want to burn a movie in a stand alone dvd player you need to convert the avi to dvd .vob format first.

If your dvd can play divx along with vob (dvd) format then just burn the avi using the data dvd function you maybe able to put 3 or 4 movies on a 4 gig dvd. This will not work on a stand alone dvd player.

I have burn a DVD video using Cyberlink DVD Suite using LG super multi DVD Writer, but once the burn is completed my stand alone DVD players is not able to read and throws message as No Disc - i have...

There are many DVD formats DVD- DVD+ DVD-ROM heck even blueray is a different DVD format.,Now see if you can find any paper work for your DVD stand alone and see what is compatible with it.
The only other thought it may be, in your burning program you can select to have the DVD play only on the computer you make it on...see if that is checked
and if it is make so DVDs can play in all players.
So to recap: a compatibility issue or a proprietary setting for your computer only.
hope this helps, please leave rating, thank you

Discs will not play on any other machine

I have the same problem with a brand new HP Pavilion PC running Windows Vista with a LightScribe DVD reader. I downloaded the latest driver from LightScribe, but the system refuses to recognize it. A request for help from HP hasn't been answered yet.

My son has the same problem with his custom machine running Windows XP.
