My sony keeps telling me to reinsert the cassette or replug the power source, sometimes it won't eject the tape. so I unplug the power source and it pushes the tape down and then tells me to reinsert the tape repeatedly.

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

How do i fix my sony mhc-gnz888d reject and stand by problem?

The "Eject" and "Standby" display issue on your Sony MHC-GNZ888D could be caused by a variety of factors, ranging from simple glitches to more complex hardware problems. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to address the issue:
  1. Check Power Source and Cables:
    • Ensure that the power source and power cables are properly connected and providing a stable power supply to the system.
    • Try plugging the Hi-Fi into a different power outlet to rule out any issues with the electrical supply.
  2. Reset the System:
    • Unplug the Hi-Fi from the power source and wait for a few minutes.
    • Plug it back in and try turning it on again. This can sometimes reset any minor glitches in the system.
  3. Remove and Reinsert Discs and Tapes:
    • If you have any discs or tapes in the player, remove them and make sure there is nothing obstructing the mechanisms.
  4. Disconnect External Devices:
    • Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, smartphones, etc.) that are connected to the Hi-Fi and try turning it on again.
  5. Check for Jammed Mechanisms:
    • Open the disc tray (if applicable) and visually inspect for any obstructions or jams. Gently remove any foreign objects if you find any.
  6. Cassette Deck Maintenance:
    • If you're not hearing the usual clicking sounds from the cassette deck, there might be an issue with the mechanisms.
    • Try opening the cassette compartment and visually inspect the mechanisms for any obstructions or damage. Ensure that the cassette deck is clean and free of debris.
  7. Cooling and Ventilation:
    • Make sure the Hi-Fi has proper ventilation and is not overheating. If it gets too hot, it might automatically go into standby mode.
  8. Seek Professional Repair:
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there might be a more serious hardware problem.
    • In such cases, it's recommended to contact Sony customer support or a professional audio equipment technician for further diagnosis and repair.
Remember that working with electronic equipment carries inherent risks, and if you're not comfortable or experienced with troubleshooting and repairs, it's best to seek professional assistance to avoid potential damage to the equipment or harm to yourself.

HI! I'VE JUSTED WENT THRU THE GR-D770U MANUAL BUT HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING REGARDING STEPPING OUT OF THE "UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE", EJECT AND REINSERT TAPE, THERE IS ALSO 03 NUMBAR IN THE SCREEN! THANKS

To reset the error message, unplug the video camera from its power source and remove the battery. Wait at least two minutes. Next take out the cassette. Wait a few more minutes and then reconnect the power source. Replace the battery and then the cassette. Turn on the camera and see if the error returns.

In some cases, the solution is to press and hold the play button while you turn on the video camera. This starts the camera in playback mode and avoids the error. Turn off the camera, then press Rec while turning on the unit. This starts the camera in the recording mode and also resets the machine.

If neither of the above solutions work, try using a different cassette tape. Sometimes, the tape will slip when the camera does a self-test and a new cassette might not have the slack issue. This can trigger the error. Otherwise, the GR-D770U needs service. I hope this helps.

Tape loaded normally but now won't eject. The unit just powers off after a few seconds.

Unplug the power from the combo unit and give it 30 seconds, now plug back in, sometimes this will eject the tape, if not! take the top off the machine and check to see if the tape is spewed in the mechanical section and around the video head, if yes! get a pair of scissors and cut the tape carefully to avoid damaging the video head and remove all tape deb-ri, now power up and eject the main cassette. But! if you find the cassette has loaded in place and the tape is still in the vhs cassette, this would indicate a loading problem with the main carriage, broken belt, bad idler assembly and possibly sensor issues.

Loading tapes

I had a similar issue where the tape bay would not lock in and engage the motor mechanism to load the tape. I removed the battery from the unit and let it stand for approximately a minute then reinserted the battery. The tape drawer closed first without a tape then reopened with no issue. I then inserted a new tape with no issue. I guess it needed a hard reboot.
