Why does my printer only print half of a page?

Let's start by trying this:
Unplug the printer power cord from the printer and the wall.
Turn off the PC.
Disconnect the USB cable from both ends.
Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Now, can you print a self-test page from the printer?
Make sure there is unused, plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
On the product control panel, press and hold the Power button and the Cancel (X) button at the same time.
Release both buttons. The diagnostic page prints.
If that does not work, are there any blinking lights on the printer? This document might explain them: Blinking lights.
If the self-test page does print normally, reconnect the USB cable, turn the PC back on and try to print a Windows test page:
Click the Windows icon and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens in a new window.
Click Hardware and Sounds .
Click Printers . The Printers folder opens.
Right-click the printer icon in the Printers folder.
Click Properties . The printer Properties window opens.
In the General tab, click Print Test Page . The Windows Printer Test Page prints.
If you have problems printing from Windows, you can try some of the troubleshooting steps in this document:
Printer Prints Blank Paper.
Finally, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the print driver.
tip

Print Driver Location for PC - Print Test Page

Click --> Start Button
go to --> Settings
Open --> Control Panel
in control panel open --> Printers and Faxes
open printer in question, a window will pop up
This should be your Print Que - any print jobs waiting will be listed here
click on --> Printer (some might have File, to the left on the menu)
on the menu select --> Properties

another window will open, this should be your printers properties,
This is where you will click on --> Print Test Page

here you can make changes to the configuration, some ink jets offer alingment and cleaning.

If you are able to sucessfully print a test page, your printer is working
if not check connection to printer
if strange characters are printed, replace the drivers..

To print the Self-Test Diagnostic Page
• Device control panel: Press Setup, select Print Report, select Self-Test Report,
and then press OK.
• Toolbox (Windows): Click the Services tab, and then click Print a Test Page.

No display and no light indicators when powered on

If the printer control panel is blank when you turn on the printer, check the following items.
1. Make sure that the printer is plugged into an active electrical outlet that delivers the correct
voltage.
2. Make sure that the on/off switch is in the on position.
3. Make sure that the fan runs briefly, which indicates that the power supply is operational.
4. Make sure that the control panel display wire-harness is connected.
The control-panel wire-harness connector can easily be disconnected when you install the top
cover. If the control panel does not work after the top cover is installed, verify that the wire-harness
connector is fully seated into its DC controller PCA connector.
5. Make sure that the firmware DIMM and the formatter are seated and operating properly.
6. Remove any HP Jetdirect or other EIO cards, and then try to turn the printer on again.
If the printer control-panel display is blank, but the main cooling fan runs briefly after the printer
power is turned on, try printing an engine test page to determine whether the problem is with the
control-panel display, formatter, or other printer components.
Engine test page
To verify that the printer engine (all printer components except the formatter, formatter DIMMs,
EIO products, and the stacker or stapler/stacker) is functioning, print an engine test page. Use a
small, non-metallic, pointed object to depress the test-page switch, which is located on the right
side of the printer
The test page should have a series of vertical lines. The test page will print from the last tray you
printed from. However, if the printer has been turned off and then back on since the most recent
print job, the page will print from tray 2. The printer will continuously print test pages as long as
the test-page switch is depressed. The printer will not print a test page if it is in PowerSave
mode.
A damaged formatter might interfere with the engine test. If the engine test page does not print,
try removing the formatter and performing the engine test again. If the engine test is then
successful, the problem is almost certainly with the control panel, or the cable that
connects it.
Hope this helps
