If the blue round led at the top of keybard is glowing yellow then just press it once (not hold it too long to shut down)and it will wake up!
I posted a solution to the annoying problem of laptop not waking up from sleep but simply showing a blank screen. Please follow the link. The article is long but the solution is really simple:

You should be able to press any key, enter, power, or the sleep button again. If nothing is working then the sleep mode has a glitch. You will have to hold the power button until it shuts down, and reboot. This may be a one time glitch, but if the problem persists try a system restore to a point that you remember it working. If a restore doesn't work, you will need to perform a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.

My computer (Acer 5920 with Windows Vista Home Premium) goes into sleep mode and doesn't wake up again - it's not shut down, but it doesn't matter what I do, it won't wake up again. All I can do is hold the power button to shut it down, then reboot - at the current rate that happens a few times every day and can't be good for it...?
The blue round led at the top of the keyboard does glow yellow, but even if I press it once it will NOT wake up. Instead the screen stays black for a while, then the system comes up and says it wasn't shut down properly and it reboots from scratch. This is very annoying. Any other ideas on how to fix this? Thank you.
Same prblem with my 5420 Acer, no matter what you do it will not wake or sometimes even shut down, one time I had to disconnect the battery and unplug i would not even shut off.
My Acer has done this consistently right out of the box. If I unplug the power cord, then I can get it to wake up. But I too have had the situation where unplugging it AND removing the battery was the only way to get it to react to the power button.
