Strip cover and check that all the dirt etc is cleaned out and the brake band is in the correct position If the brake band looks worn ie thin in places replace with new one. Dirt can also get in the pivot of the chain brake handle and cause it to jam, saw should be stripped and cleaned at the end of every days use and the bar turned over to even out the wear

Homelite chainsaw 45cc during a trade. I ran across this on another forum. If your clutch brake stay too taught when in the disengaged (run) position follow these instructions and you'll be good to go with the brake on when stop position (pushed forward) and off when in run (pulled back) position.

    1. remove top cover(spark plug/ motor cover)
    2. remove brake handle(1 E-clip/pin,1 screw and pivot assem.)
    3. take the brake band off of the lever assem.(1 star head screw)
    4. remove gold spring(was gold in mine)and cut it with a dremal or something at the( 2 1/2 -3rd worked for me) down from the start of spring.
    5. replace spring cut side down in the hole. put everything back and make sure to leave the top cover screw(1 above choke) loose or choke will be very difficult to use.

What is the chain brake an where

not on the older chainsaws
newer ones it s normally the black lever you hold
Check the Chain Brake
Make sure the chain brake is working properly by putting the chainsaw on a stable surface. Release the chain brake, squeeze the throttle and then activate the chain brake by pushing your left wrist against the kick back protection without releasing the handle. This should cause the chain to stop rotating immediately.

Took off cover to put chain on and can't get the cover back on the brake band doesn't sit right

You need to release the brake mechanism in the cover so that the brake band will expand enough to pass over the clutch drum. You should have released the chain brake before removing the cover, but that doesn't help now. Use a wide heavy screwdriver to release the mechanism. Hope this helps!

I have a '99 kawasaki vulcan 800, it has a rubbing sound near the back wheel and chain/sprocket area...could this be that the main bolt on back wheel is too tight.

Tighting the bolt very tight is OK but over doing it can collaspe the spacers. It's more likly that if loosing the bolt corrects the problem it's been put to gether wrong. Look at the bike bandit .com for your bikes rear wheel and see if yours has all the right parts in the right order. Maybe the rear brakes are worn out or something in the brake came loose. The chain and sprocket can make alot of niose. Axel not the same on both sides. chain dry or too loose or too tight. Chain gaurd touching chain or the tire. With the wheel jacked up turn it and work the brake to see if the noise changes. The wheel should turn very easy cheak breakes and chain for probelems wheel bears do fail but mileage needs to be high or wet.

Cannot get the chain cover on the Farm Tough the brake will not seat right on the chain drive

The chain brake is tripped. try this:
Reset Chain Brake by Dolfoff
Please follow this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/t3102817-re_install_side_cover_after_chain
cursor down to “Best Solution”, while there click the “Was this helpful? [Yes]” button
If you don’t have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood. HTH
Lou
It takes considerable force to reset the brake. I should click when it nests in the detent. If you are unable to reset it try your local chainsaw seller/mechanic, probably free. A spare chain purchase would be a nice "Thank You" HTH

Races will not idle down so the chain will not turn

Your not clear on the saw model or manufacturer. Is the throttle in the start position (Fast idle)? Is the chain brake engaged (Must be disengaged before chain will turn)? IMO the chain brake should not be activated before start, (hard on clutch) but may save your leg if you drop start! I start mine on the ground with right foot in rear handle with the brake disengaged.

Fly wheel seemds locked up on Husqvarna 445

the flywheel does not have a brake, the clutch side has the break.if you have the chain side cover off the brake is no longer on the clutch drum.the fly wheel is on the oppiset side (starter rewind).take the starter rewind off and see if the motor will turn.if hte motor turns the problem is in the clutch side.if it doesn't the problem is in the flywheel side.the ignition coil has been known to loosen up.the screws streitch out from heat.check the air gap between the flywheel magnets and the ignition coil.should be .10 to .12 inches.if problem is on clutch side check to make sure that the springs are on between the clutch discs.they have been known to break and that does not let the chain spin on bar.any questions get me an e mail

Husqvarna chain brake

You'll have to release the brake with the cover off the saw. You just need to find a way to brace it well enough.
If you really can't do this, then it suggests your chainbrake is faulty, of ath the very least not adjusted right.
