The flashing question mark indicates that there is a problem with the operating system or hard drive. Try to boot from the Mac OS X install disc by holding down "C" on the keyboard at startup.

If the computer boots normally from the Mac OS X install disc. Go to the Disk Utility from the disc. try to Repair Permissions on the hard drive. If after a while it seemed to work then is it time to reinstall the operating system. If it fails to repair permissions and gives you a bunch of red errors its time to replace the hard drive.

What's wrong? My Lowrance Mark 5x dsi depth finder flashes or pulsates a depth of 60 ft. All the time.

Since the unit powers up, we can pretty much eliminate a power supply problem.

I would start by carefully inspecting your transducer lead for kinks, crushing etc. Assuming the cable is OK, clean and lubricate (silicone spray, safe for plastics) the cable end and where the cable connects to the unit.

Hope this is helpful to you.

How to use a stud finder

The stud finder works by picking up density of the product it is pressed and slid on..Turn your stud finder on make sure the ok light is on...then slightly press it against the wall or surface you are working with,,then slowly moved it right or left still against the surface. As the finder starts to detect more density "thickness" it will. Glow or beep depending what type you have..It will get brighter, louder or what ever it signals are while crossing the stud beneath the surface..keep moving until it stops then move back
again until it stops.....mark or note the position where the signal starts then find the middle...2x4's are 1 1/2 inches across...so center should be 3/4 of an inch...good luck..

Skil 2100daf angle finder

I was trying to reset the zero on my angle finder. It's a Powerfist Digital Angle Finder, the same as the Skil 2100.

After turning the unit on, if I press the Miter and Hold button together and hold them, the unit goes into 'calibration' mode. (The display flashes 0.0). If you do nothing, it will always stay in this mode forever after that.

You can then reset your unit - it takes time however and patience.

With the aid of a large protractor, draw angles on a large sheet of paper (I used a couple of 11 X 17" pages) from 0 degrees all the way up to 220 degrees.

Turn on your angle finder and make sure the numbers are flashing 0.0. This will be your 0 degree reading. Hold the finder closed and press the Hold button once.

The display will now read 10 degrees. Open up the finder until it matches your 10 degree marks on your paper and press the Hold button again.

The display will now read 20 degrees. Open up the finder until it matches your 20 degree marks and press the Hold button again.

Continue setting your angles in this fashion up 'til you reach 220 degrees. The next button press will close the calibration cycle and the numbers will stop flashing.

Your unit is re-calibrated. Now, if it's off - you've only yourself to blame.

Good luck!

The computer can't find an operating system. Start up from the OSX disc and check the drive with 'Disk Utility'. The system may have got damaged, or the drive may need to be repaired. Run 'First Aid'.
