Suggest checking proper bobbin tension, and you may need to add a evenfeed foot so the top and bottom material feet at the exact same speed and length.

I have a problem when piecing quilts together.I measure to ensure all squares are identical. When I sew squares together there is "curving" that gets worse as I join rows/strips.What am I doing wrong?

Not a sewer just an engineer, but I would guess the thread tension is too high causing it to gather the material. Play with the tread and foot tension till it doesn't gather the material.

My Singer Melodie 60 sewing machine keeps getting the bobbin thread tangled under the footplate. Very messy. Happened three times and very annoying. Can't sew with it.

My machine is not a Singer but a Pfaff. The place to put oil in mine is in the bobbin casing. There is a tiny opening in the bottom of the casing. One drop is all that's needed. Sew on scraps for the first bit in case there is a transfer of oil and to work it through the bobbin case.
Hope this works for you.

How to do gathered stitches on j3-20 series

Gathering stitches is same on most makes and models, you just set up for a straight stitch but turn stitch length up to 4 and loosen off the top tension by one number, ie turn it down a little. Then sew two straight stitch seams where you want to gather, one at 10mm from raw edge and one at 20mm from raw edge, leaving long thread tails on both. Then draw up the bobbin (underside) thread to gather the fabric.

I am trying to make a ruffles look on some tulle. I am trying to "gather" but it doesnt work. im new to sewing too btw :)

Try to make two parallel lines of straight sewing on a big stitch, then pull both ends together. this gives the best gather. Tighening the tension to make the thread pull doesn't work as well, although its OK

Threading the bobbin

Threading the bobbin - winding thread onto the bobbin.

Position the new empty bobbin onto the vertical bobbin rod next to the end wheel. Click the rod to the right to engage drive. Hold the outer end wheel with left hand, and rotate the inner wheel anticlockwise by about a 1/2 turn (it stops) this removes drive from the foot and needle mechanism.

From a spool of thread on the top, thread to a loop/post on the left on the top. Then back to the bobbin you want to wind. Thread through a hole from the inside-out. Hold the thread vertically above the bobbin while you depress the footswitch to start winding. Let go when it's turned a few times.

Move bobbin shaft left, and tighten end wheel after winding enough.

Fitting bobbin-

Move footplate towards you, insert bobbin in hole so that bobbin rotates anticlockwise when thread is pulled, then pull thread into the fine notch towards you. After this position thread away from you, and slide the footplate closed.

To start / load thread. Hold the end 3" of the thread through the needle behind the sewing foot. hand crank towards you to sew first stitch in air. This should retrieve the lower thread - which you can catch with a handy pair of scissors. Then pull both threads rearwards - ready to sew.
