The SRC button on the face plate (KDC 225MR) doesn't do anything. But, I can work all functions from the remote pad on the transome of the boat. Is the faceplate bad?
Dear sir/madam,
This is the dust problem for not working the face plate button. so you must clean the face plate. If the terminals on the unit or faceplate get dirty, wipe them with a dry, soft cloth.
If the faceplate of this unit is stained, wipe it
with a dry soft cloth such as a silicon cloth.
If the faceplate is stained badly, wipe the stain
off with a cloth moistened with neutral
cleaner, then wipe neutral detergent off.
Note:
Applying spray cleaner directly to the unit may
affect its mechanical parts. Wiping the
faceplate with a hard cloth or using a volatile
liquid such as thinner or alcohol may scratch
the surface or erases characters.
thanks
Good luck

To test it you need to take apart the device and test for continuity (using a multimeter) the back of the switch.
If you can remove the button it is probably easier to spray some circuit cleaning solution on the switch circuit behind the button, often dirt and oxide cause this kind of problem.
Go to a local electronics retailer and buy a product similar to this.
Often you get this kind of problem because of oxide, particularly on marine equipment.
If you cleaned the switch contact surface, behind the bottom (you need to remove either single button or plate) and the button does not work then it is probably faulty.
To do a definitive test you should take apart the stereo, acess the back of the circuit board with buttons and check switch contact with a Multimeter, verifying if there is contiunuity when you press the switch.
In this case I suggest contacting a repairman, it is not a difficult job but involves some risk of damaging the stereo.

Yup. that can be a reason.
use a new one and check it.

The first "expert" told me what I already knew! Is there a test that can be performed?
I cleaned the switches, faceplate, etc.& reset the unit to default.
