When I insert a cassette tape and press the play button, nothing happens. I hear a noise inside, as if it's trying to turn, straining is more like what seems to be happening. After a couple of seconds, it shuts off. It's the same sound as if I was at the end of the tape and attempted to make the machine continue in that direction. It would groan a little, then stop. Only this time I'm in the middle of the tape (it's easy to turn by hand) and the tape deck just groans a little and quits trying to turn the tape.

SOURCE: Left Deck Door Stuck Shut on Cassette Deck

The cassette mechanism has a large gear that rotates to different positions for the different modes. On time around is a play - stop cycle. It is stuck in one position and won't come around to the stop spot. Need to take the cover off and help it to turn to get the cassette out. Then figure out if something is wrong preventing it from turning or if the wheel driving it is the problem. They are all a little different so this is where your mechanical apptitude comes in.
By the way, you'll figure out right away they don't intend these things to be fixed.
Hope Ya Fix It.

The deck will need new belts and idler drives cleaned and serviced, and perhaps some idler tyres replaced. You can get a belt kit from these guys. replacing them is not such a difficult job if you have some mechanical aptitude. Just take it slowly, and focus on getting the transport out of the unit.

Need the manuel original lost or misplaced and can not find. want to record cassettes to cd's

Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW into the unit. Press the Function button on the remote (key above Vol+ on the bottom right of the remote) or the turntable itself (top left of the control panel) until the unit is in Phono mode. Then insert the pre-recorded cassette and press Play to advance the tape to where you wish to start recording. With the cassette playing, press the CD Record button (recording will flash on the display). The CD Record button is to the left of the fast reverse button on the unit; it is labeled Record on the remote and is below the Stop button. When one side of the cassette finishes playing, press Stop. Wait for the display to return to Phono. Then eject and turn over the cassette to play side 2 (if you want to record both sides of the tape). Press Play again to advance the tape and then press Record. When this side finishes, press Stop and then Finalize. Finalize is at the bottom left of the remote buttons and to the left of the stand by indicator on the turntable.

The manual is available at Crosley: http://www.crosleyradio.com/Product.aspx?pid=1790 . The direct link to the manual is http://www.crosleyradio.com/Manuals/CR248_Manual.pdf . Recording a cassette to CD is on page 11 (page 12 of the pdf).

I hope this helps.

Video playback

this must be a vcr tape you are talking about thats in a tv
well the reason is the tape may not be working correctly inside ( tape not going at proper speed for tape sensors to reconize as correct , this is due to disc clutch pads that are starting to slip because of to much strain on the pull of the tape
gears will need to be lubricated and rubber pulling wheels will need to be cleaned

Eats my Cassette Tapes

Ok sound like the play head is out of a-line ment - easy way to fix if it is this - remove from the mains supply and open the cassette deck door - press the play button down and look at the play head there is 2 screws 1 either side 1 is fixed and 1 is sprung - now inset batterys (much safer) - try and fit a cassette in without using the cassette door should just fit in then press play and ajust the Right hand side scree with a small screwdriver (insulated) and ajust slightly to the left or to the right and this should fix the chewing - to get it just right use headphones ajusting left to right will tke the sound + & - to each earphone. Warning dont turn to far to the left as this will undo the screw completely - u have a least 1 whole turn either way is fine

A. REAL SPEAKER CONNECTION B. CASSETT RECORDER NOT ENGAGING

A Real Speaker Jacks..
There should be a switch position on your system that you move to allow the sound to come out to standard speaker configuration or to multiple speaker configuration.
This switch may be on the front or rear panel.

Please have alook to see if its there....
Its possible the these Real speaker jacks are not wired to anything inside the amp system, and are there for use on a different model where the selector switch is supplied.

B Cassett Deck..
The clicking is caused by the motor trying to drive the wheels that turn the cassett tape.
It sounds like something is jamming the internal drive mechanism.
The drive belt may have come off or is stretched and is slipping.

Have a good look inside the front slot and you may see one of these items described above happening..

It may have to be serviced at a workshop.

Cheers From YUBEUT.

Cassette Recorder play problem

Sounds like the tape tension sensor is stuck. The sensor is always telling the mechanism that the tape has reached the end.
