Printer doesn't recognize cartridge

Hi, I have a Canon MP210 and started refilling my cartridges. The first time I got an error saying the printer didn't recognize the cartridge, but it finally cleared up. I am having trouble again having just refilled both of the cartridges. The Error No. that comes up is 1401 or 1485 - "The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized" - Color Ink and Black Ink. The Alarm Light on the Control Panel is lit and one or both of the black ink and color ink lights flash.

I have tried pushing the reset button for over 5 minutes which was suggested on another site, but that doesn't work.

Does anyone know of a way around this or a way to bypass the Alarm Light coming on?

Thanks for any help!

Yeah - I was trying to get around that option of paying for new cartridges. Apparently from what I have read, many times this same thing happens even with new Canon cartridges! No more Canon products for me!

My Pixma MP170 says 'check ink UO51 blk col'. I replaced the black cartridge, hate to waste another $30 on the color cartridge if that won't fix it.

SOURCE: Error Number : 1485 The following ink cartridge cannot be recogni

Nope! Canon played a little nasty on re-fillers and made these cartridge virtually un-fillable. Not that they can't be refilled, they can. They just won't be recognized in your machine.
They have done a couple of strange things with the software and the cartridge.

1. Software writes to the cartridge to actually marry it to the machine. This encodes id numbers on the cartridge so that another machine cannot use the cartridge.
2. They have placed a "fuse" of some type in the cartridge which is actually "blown" when the "out of ink" message is displayed. This renders the cartridge un-usuable for another cycle.

I like the Canon product. Just not these particular ones. The ones that take cartridges 30/31/40/41/50/51. I have seen too many of them come into my shop for repairs after barely 2 years of use. They are un-repairable regardless of their issues.

I suggest you look at a different Canon product, one that takes the individual ink tank cartridge PG-5 and CL-8 series. These are much better machines and the printer itself will last longer.
Just be aware that you will have an added cost in the print head which is a consumable that will need to be replaced every 3 years or so!

I just installed a new CL41 Color ink cartridge into my Canon Pixma mp210, and it does not recognize it. It keeps saying the printer is empty, or displaying Error Code E5. ANother thing is when I go to see...

maybe it have the ink level chip which can be resetted by removing the cartridge and oning and offing the printer for 5 times within 10 minutes coz it saves data of a cartridge upto 5 use before only.. and 6th time insert it.

I changed my catrige but its showing the error E5

I use refilled cartridges. Okay, the printer says ink low, but it does that all the time. I ignore it. However, yesterday it printed not a problem, today it gives me code 5. Does anyone have a real solution or should I throw the printer away?

PIXMA MP210 Photo All-In-One Printer: Alarm light is on and I have just refilled my cart...

Hello!
I work in a refill shop, and we have noticed that after refilling cartridges for Pixma MP210, they won't work.
Try holding the "resume" button (triangle in circle), for about 10 sec. for each cartridge- that should reset the cartridges (and usually it works with every Pixma printer, but almost never with the MP210, I really don't know why)
If that doesn't help, you should buy new cartridges.

I've changed the cartridges, and now it shows "Error", because an ink cartridge(the color one) cannot be recognized, but the cartridges are ok.

It sounds like you are using aftermarket or refilled cartridges. The chance is the new colr cartridge is defective. To clear the sensors and nozzle, install new OEM cartridges, run deep cleaning a number of times (at least 3 times), and then the alignment utility.
Aftermarket/refilled cartridges do not always meet the manufacturer's specifications for quality. Try cartridges from LDproducts.com for your printer. I've never had a problem with their aftermarket cartridges.
Please rate this solution. Thanks.

Printer says ink cartridge not recognized.

Take the black ink cartridge back to the person who refilled it. The Microchip that's on the cartridge was not reset properly that's why the printer is returning that error.

You can try some steps before you take it to them to verify it.
1: reseat (take out and put back in) the cartridges into place
2: buy another black cartridge just to check if it will be recognized by the printer, if it does recognize it we know the cartridge is defective. If a new cartridge is also not recognize, start to check your warranty option with the manufacturer...
