Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hello, I've got a 80 series Kenmore top loading washer. I recently had to replace its dogs due to agitation issues (problem fixed) but now not but 2 months later the "washer drum" (?) is hitting the inside wall during any spin cycle. I've redistributed the clothing and run it with only water (both large and small loads) and it continues - I have to hold down the lid switch and keep my hand on the top of the drum to keep it from hitting the wall. It leans towards the wall even when not in use - fixes are possible a new washer isn't. Can anyone still help regarding these old washers? Thanks

This is likely the washer wear pads. They are inexpensive and fairly easy to replace. Here is a video that will walk you thru it Washer wear pad replacement Now before fully disassembling check the tub springs and counter weight spring. Sometimes they break or rust out. If they look good then move on to the wear pads.

Agitator: bottom moves, top does not

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

On the Sears parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26902691&pop=flush

replace the 110.26902691 with your model number (lift the lid and the model number should be printed on the cabinet) and look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

This is what they look like:

pd_26_110_80040?$pddetailsth$ #21 on diagram Dog, agitator (4) Number:3366877Substitution:80040 $9.25Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Replacing the agitator dogs in a Kenmore 80 series washer

Hi, Remove the cap on the agitator and then remove the inside cover. There is a 7/16" bolt under the inside cover. Remove the bolt and the agitator will lift out. Seperate the 2 pieces of the agitator and replace the dogs. You might have to use a flat blade screw drive and punch out the 4 tabs around the bolt hole in the agitator if this applies.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Kenmore series 80 washer: does not twist in the middle

Check the agitator by turning it back and forth. It should work like a ratchet (turns one way, locks the other way).If you're able to turn it in both directions, the agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced.
Remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.
