Normally 3 Star rated and 5 star rated compressor are life for 12 to 15 years, if properly maintained.
And also depends on replacement of spares when required. It should be original spare/s replacement.
But normally, 10 to 12 years life for any air conditioner with proper voltage and proper maintenance is there. thanks and hope, it's helpful.

What should I do to improve the life expectancy of my air conditioner?


In order to improve the life expectancy of your AC, do the following:

  1. Make sure that you clean your filters regularly. When it is time replace them.
  2. Having checks done by a seasoned professional to find issues early.
  3. Use drapes and screens to make sure that the air does to get of your room
  4. When using the AC shut the doors and windows tightly.

If you are wondering what type of air filter to use in your air conditioner/heater, you probably have already discovered there is a large variety of air filters out there to choose from.

There are several factors to consider when the choosing the best air filter to suit your needs.

1. Maintenance : level of difficulty ; interval of service
2. Efficiency : level of desired filtration and its affect on system performance
3. Annual Cost : Material and labor

Maintenance is something that can be overlooked at first. Afterall, it's just a filter, right? Filter types range from disposable to permanent. Disposables are pulled out, thrown away, and replaced with a new disposable filter. Permanent air filters must be removed, cleaned, allowed time to dry, and re-installed. Permanent air filters may or may not require electricity.

Efficiency is determined by a MERV rating of 1 thru 16 with "1" being the lowest and "16" being the highest. Low end residential air filters generally have a rating between 1 & 5. Medium grades range between 5 & 9. Higher grades are in the 9-11 range. Utimate is 11 - 13. The lower the rating, the lower the efficiency of air filtration but higher airflow due to lower resistance. The higher the rating, the higher the efficiency of air filtration but lower airflow due to higher resistance. Lower MERV ratings have minimal affects on your air conditioner/furnace performance. Higher MERV ratings can decrease the amount of air passing through the system creating system performance issues which could lead to system failure and/or decreased life. If Maximum efficiency is desired, it is recommended you consult with your HVAC contractor who can help you identify a filtration system to satisfy your needs without comprimising the performance and life expectancy of your heating and air conditioning system. Maximum efficiency air filtration will not only be capable of capturing fine particles, but it can also capture bacteria and smoke. If you determine that Maximum efficiency is not in your budget and/or not required, you should be able to install an air filter with a MERV rating of 1 - 11 without needing to consult with a contractor. MERV 8 has been laboratory tested to capture mold spores which are a big contributor to Mold in an A/C system. Additional Information on MERV Ratings - Click Here. Lower efficiency filters allow more particles to pass through which could end up getting trapped in today's higher efficiency evaporator coils. Today's coils have much smaller gaps than their predecessors making them more susceptible to collecting debris and requiring costly professional cleanings.

Annual Cost is another often-overlooked consideration when deciding what type of air filter to use. To determine annual cost, you must try to determine approximately how often you will need to replace/service your air filter and the costs of labor & materials involved. I include labor because if you have a hard-to-reach air filter or a high efficiency air filter/cleaner that requires special care, you may need a contractor to perform the service for you. Of course, if you are doing the service yourself, there is no labor involved with the exception of your own time and gas, etc. If you choose the ever-popular disposable air filter route, you should consider pleated-type air filters. Pleated Air Filters have more face area than standard air filters; therefore, they typically have a longer life expectancy - up to 3 times longer for every inch of filter thickness. In short, when determinining annual cost, you must calculate labor/material cost and multiply that cost by the number of times a year the service will need to be provided.

Proper maintenance and upkeep of your air filtration system is the single, most important service your heating & air conditioning system requires to keep it running at top performance and maintain peak life expectancy. Careful consideration is needed to determine what type of filter will meet your family's needs both on a comfort level as well as financially.

These are some useful precautions to be taken in air conditioners (A/C).Improper refrigerant charge can damage your compressor, which is the heart of your air conditioning system; this is an expensive air conditioner repair. Systems improperly charged will cause increased electric bills because this will reduce the efficiency of your air conditioning system. The proper refrigerant charge will provide longer equipment life, lower your utility bills and reduce the need for air conditioning service.
A dirty condenser coil (outside unit) will reduce your air conditioning systems ability to remove and reject heat from your home. This will cause your system to run longer and increase your electric bills. The benefit of a clean condenser coil is proper heat rejection, reduced run time and lower energy bills. A dirty air conditioning condenser can lead to system failure and the need for you air conditioner to be repaired, dirt and house dust that escapes through your air conditioning filter can cling to the cold moist coil. This will restrict the air flow through the coil reducing your air conditioning system of performance and capacity. Maintaining the evaporator coil will ensure that proper air flow is delivered to all areas of your home, increase comfort levels, provide a cleaner healthier indoor environment. Inspecting and changing your air filter on a monthly basis will help prevent air conditioner repairs.
As your air conditioning system removes heat from your home, humidity is extracted from the air. The condensation created by warmer air passing over a cold coil must be drained from your system. My AC unit model is CPLE60-1. It is running, blowing cool air but not cooling house. Any Suggestions? and what is the life expectancy of this unit?


Your Goodman unit is a five ton and should last 15 to 10 years with proper maintenance. Parts do wear out though during the normal life of piece of equipment.
Cooling problem may be due to low charge, broken ducting, or other low airflow problem. Need to verify freon charge and then go from there.

It really depends on what cause the first failure adn who well it was serviced . but you are correct about the life of the compressor you can by and extened warrenty of the compressor but usually for only 5 years and you should get one year if its a new compressor for free. But it and agrument that long had . I say if you buy the 5 years you really get 6 or you only need to buy 4 years then .. But again it depends on why the unit failed the first tiem and why this unit failed this tiem could be totally unrelated

Formula Length times Width times Height Times Eighteen divde by Five.

Example: 12 x 15 x 9 x 18 / 5 = 5832 BTU's

They are servicable but usually the price it cost to service and fix the problem is more then the unit is worth so for the most part they are disposable also due to the fact that once one part starts to go they all kind of start to go from there
