Hi,

If the Wii is having trouble with a disk, it means there's either a problem with the disk or the Wii. If your Wii can't read any disks then you'll want to contact Nintendo. Otherwise you need to investigate your disk.

If you hold the bottom side of the disk to the light you should be able to see if there's a smudge or scratch. If it's a smudge, cleaning the disk will often fix the problem. I like to use the microfiber cloths used to clean eyeglasses or, short of that, a tissue. Just rub the smudged spot. (When using a tissue I generally steam up the spot with my breath first.) If the disk looks good, put it back into the Wii and see what happens.

A scratch is more problematic. If it's a game you just bought, try exchanging it where you bought it. Otherwise you can try polishing out the scratch.

Some older Wii units also have trouble with dual layer discs, which pack more info onto a disk (Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime use dual layer discs). If your Wii is having trouble reading a dual layer disc you can try Nintendo's Wii lens cleaning kit. If all fails and still you Wii cant read any disk it only means that the Wii is malfunctioning.

Put mario cart in and go through until it says error occured eject and turn off etc but it will not turn off

This error occurs if you have a problem with the disc. This normally happens if the wii console cannot read or recognize the game disc and freezing usually occurs after the error. You need to restart the wii console if this happens. Also check the disc for any visible damage and try cleaning if dirt is present. If this happens on all or majority of your games, there could be a problem with your wii's disc drive, but if it only occurs on a specific game then the problem is with the disc itself. Good luck!

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. Wii not reading discs

try cleaning the disks and make sure your inserting the disks with the wii on. you can also try resetting it there is a soft and hard way to reset it.
to soft reset your wii with the power on press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds( the second button from the top of the console)

The way to hard reset your Nintendo Wii is to UNPLUG it for 5 minutes.

if that doesn't cure your problem then i suggest taking it to a store and getting it fixed or if its still under warranty to return it to the manufacturer
