Pride Mobility Products Jazzy 1170 XL Plus Logo
Anonymous Posted on Feb 06, 2011

I have a pride 1170xl with E675HT motors. I broke the black plastic brush holder getting the brush out. Can the brush holder be replaced separately or do I need to buy the whole MOTOR END CAP? I may be able to glue it back together, not sure. Also can you recommend a brush alternative as to the stock $72USD per motor? Copper or Metal/Graphite. I don't want to use cheapo carbon. I was thinking that I could find a near alternative used in starter motors or maybe automotive alternator/generator applications. Part #'s and/or suppliers near Corpus Christi TX would be greatly appreciated. If not, then mail order sources.

Mark,

The manufacturer parts manual indicates the following information:

The motor brush caps are available from Pride:
PLSINDV1059 Motor brush cap (Reliance 0003-0035) retail $2.68
The brushes are:
DRVBRSH1000 Motor brush Jazzy (Reliance 0002-6957) retail $36.31

The guys in tech service at Pride (800-800-8586) are always a good resource for the information you may need. If you are exceptionally nice to them they will drop a new brush cap in the mail for you for free.
You can also check with Reliance Motors at their website for information and cross reference for other brushes available based on the Reliance part numbers above.
A good local motor rebuild shop can recommend a comparable (more durable) brush based on the specs. I think you may be disappointed with the pricing of the more durable brushes.
You can try on-line at:
http://www.graphitestore.com/items_list.asp/action/prod/prd_id/255/cat_id/37
Hope this helps.

It appears that the motors are made by Rockwell/Reliance with a right part # 675-056-957 and the left part #675-057-958
The best resource I have found is a company called National Power chair.
National Power Chair is one of largest DC motor service centers for powered wheelchairs.
A complete line of rebuilt motors (old and new) are kept on hand for chairs manufactured by E

My pride celebrity starts slow and jumps when starting off then gets better what to do?

hi John, have the brushes been checked making sure they are not sticking inside the motor brush holder,

At worse it could be the wigwag pot, try moving the wigwag lever in the upwards or downwards direction as you go forward , be gentle to see whether that improves things, if it does , you require a new throttle pot.

How do I reattach the motor wire to the brush holder insert? Do I lube the new motor?

On one brush holder you push the clip on the end of the field wire between the bottom side of the square brush holder and the black plastic insert the holder is mounted into. On the other brush holder it pushes between the top side of the brass holder and the black insert. The bearing is pre lubricated but oil the armature shaft before sliding the rear bearing housing on.

Motor Brushes are wedged in..

hi, well with extreme care you can pick away at the brush using a very small screwdriver however you must be careful that you don't damage the commutator on the motor, pick away from the corners in wards keep checking that you haven't hit the motor, extreme care is required here,, please note the brush is made of carbon so will break up...

How to replace brush holders on dewalt table saw dw745

There is a small allen screw in the field housing holding the brush holders in.
Most often I have found, if the brush holders are needing replacement the motor housing also needs replacement - they heat up and the plastic cracks.

How to replace central vacuums Carbon Brushes

The entire brush and holder assembly has to be purchased/replaced. That's the plastic piece that screws on to the motor. I don't think you can even get brushes for their machines anymore.
Remove screws. Remove plastic piece from motor. Replace.

Shoperrider no drive just a click

Hi. Sounds to me as if you have a sticky carbon brush in the motor. Each brushe is held in the motor by small black plastic or bakealite cap that screw in the outside or the brush holders. If these caps are not tight enough then the brush or the spring will arc from the side of the brush holder. This causes the brush to become jamed, and does not contact with the commutator on the armature.
You need to remove the brushes, check that they slide freely in the brush holders, fit new springs if neccessary, and reassemble. If the brushes are too tight, the file very carefully on the sides to allow them to move freely. Do not tighten the black plastic caps too hard or they will break, but they have to be snug. Be carefull.
Good luck. Neil.

Rear wheel sticks and sometimes when you go to go forward nothing l of a happens, then al of a sudden it jurks forward with no warning.l

Hi. Sounds like you have worn out motor brushes. the brushes wear down to short and get stuck in the brush holders. Sometimes the caps that hold the carbon brushes in come loose, and the carbon brushes get stuck because the current arcs between the carbon brush and the brush guide. Get a serviceman to overhaul the motor, and it will work fine. Probably a good idea to replace the motor bearings at the same time. Good luck. Neil.

My scooter was working and it started to hesitate and then it quit. All it does now is click down at the motor when I try to use it. Put in batterys in last year and they are fully charged. Thank you

Hi. Sounds like stuck or worn motor brushes. You can check this by testing the motor resistance with a multi-meter.
Most scooters have a small black plastic cap that screws into the brush holder to keep the brushes in. If these caps come loose then the brushes arc on to the side of the brush holder and get stuck. Un screw these caps and remove the brushes. You can free up the brushes by giving them a light filing on 1 or 2 sides. Be careful screwing in the caps as they can crack easily.
Good luck. Neil.

KitchenAid K5sswh mixer after replacing plastic gear-no power

Hi COVINIO. Yes, the "large black spring loaded magnetic screws on the sides of the mixer" are your mixer's brushes, which supplies electricity to the electric motor. (The black cap is the brush cover). I suspect that one or both of the brushes is (are) not seated properly. Did you remove the brushes to replace them or were you just inspecting them, when you replaced your plastic worm gear?
The brushes need to be installed so that they both seat correctly on the armature's commutator. See the illustration below:
cb20d79.jpg
I'd suggest removing them again and making sure the concave contact face rests completely on the armature’s commutator. If you've turned it 90 degrees too much, it won’t seat properly and you get no power to the motor.
It would also be helpful to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case use KSM50P (Your K5SS mixer falls within this manual), and select the first file KSM50P.pdf (438.31 KB) listed under Parts List (4) and then check to verify this matches your mixer model.
Turn to pages 6 & 7, titled “Motor And Control Parts”, which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer’s electrical components, along with all the parts. Locate Illus No 47, Brush holder assembly that includes #28, 32, 33, 34 & 46 which is the brush holder insert, and Illus. No. 29, brush & Spring assembly respectively. The illustration along with the picture above regarding the orientation of the brushes should get your mixer powered back up and operational. Good luck! I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA
