Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect or boot up your hard drive

Test all leads that attach from the ((motherboard to your hard drive)) including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

Dell deminsion 4700 when i moved it,monitor, mouse, keyboard quit.monitor briefly displays power safe mode.pressing any key don't help

When you moved your pc you probably knocked the graphics card loose. You can open it up and try re-seating it. Make sure you unplug the pc first and then press the on button for 10 seconds to clear out all the power from the power supply before opening the computer up.

Also, If you are using a KVM... Unplug the KVM's power cord for 30 seconds and plug it back in. That will reset it.

You can try to reseat the CPU (processor) chip. Inorder to do that you have to remove the heatsink and then reapply thermal paste (compound) to the surface of processor. The processor rarely goes bad.

Have a dell dimension 4700 with orange steady light?

Turn the machine off and unplug the AC power then hold the power button in for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power. Plug it back in and turn it on, when you see the Blue DELL word press CRL+ALT+D and this should run a diagnostic on the hard drive. If it runs ok you will get a pass or fail on the hard drive. If you cannot get the diags to run you might have a bad power supply or motherboad/processor. I would find a known good power supply and try it before the motherboard.

I turned on my Dell Dimension 4700 computer, but the amber light started to blink . I held the start up button for 5 seconds and the light went out. I tried to start it up again and got the same thing,...

Vaughn it sounds like the power supply is going bad, try another known good working power supply. If that doesn't work then the motherboard would need to be replaced. If the power supply isn't giving the correct voltages that could cause the computer not to turn on. If the motheboard isn't able to convert the voltages properly then the motherboard could be faulty.

How do i get out of power save mode

If the computer is sleeping or in hibernation pressing the power button should bring it out of that state. If that doesn't work then you will have to hold the power button down for about 6 seconds until the system powers off completely. If all else fails pull the power cord out from the computer wait a few seconds then put it back on. The press the power button to power on the machine.
