I need a driver for 8 x cd-rw/dvd 8f947-a00 - Dell Latitude / Inspiron CD-CDRW/DVD Combo Drive. (8F947-A00) CD-ROM Drive

Not knowing the operating system, In windows 7 and 8 sometimes it forgets the cd format. Then you need to go to the device manager and remove the drive and let windows re-detect it.

make sure that the cd rom is getting enough consistent power test all leads that are attached to the cd rom including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd rom then plug them back in this will activate found new hardware wizard

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you will have options to update driver roll back driver select properties general troubleshoot select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver uninstall then reinstall
you need only do the registry check if you cant see the drive/s in windows explorer/my computer
it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

if no go, see if you can boot to the drive using an Windows CD or the Dell resource CD, if it will not read or boot, Boot to BIOS, ensure it is identified there and try again, if still no go, then replace the drive

You shouldn't have any problems upgrading to a DVD RW or DVD/CD RW as long as you make sure that you have all the drivers needed. The drive will probably have a disc containing all the drivers required, but in case it doesn't, simply visit the manufacturers website and they should have a driver download there :)

CD-Rom and DVD drives in itself do not need drivers in Windows, but the IDE/SATA controllers they are connected to do, so maybe that is what you are looking for?
You can use a driver update program or check the website of your motherboard manufacturer.

Chek wtat is written on front panel
If it DVD-RW it can record only DVD-R blank, if it + so only +R
or DVD-RAM. If it is DVD +/- RW or RAM it can record any disk.
Also chek the speed for you DVD and disk you using.
If you dvd maximum speed for recording is for example 2.7, 4, 8 you should use only DVD with max speed 2.7, 4, 8 or 1-8, 1-16 etc. So they should be labeled the same as you DVD

It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :(
it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.
