Looking at this, how many amps does the pump normally draw? Take this and multiply by 3 for start up current draw. Now, multiply that by 120 (volts) and this will give you the watts. Start up current is what will knock your inverter down. It won't kill the inverter but it will overload it on startup and turn off the unit. Since I do not know the size of your pump, this is my caution. You could always try it, the most that should happen is that the inverter will shut down.

Is a deep cycle battery the same as an RV/marine battery?

Deep cycle is typically for long duration loads like lights or a troling motor but not very high starting currents. Unless marked, an RV battery is a combination starting running battery. It may have a higher starting current than the deep cycle, but not as long of a run time.

What's your problem?how many amps on a 1/2 horse sump pump

750 watts is pretty close to one HP. However, the pump will have a much higher current draw on start up which may be too high for the inverter. (The accurate number is 745.699872 Watts per Horsepower)

Discounting any losses, 750 watts from a 120 volt supply will draw 6.25 Amps. so 1/2 horsepower should draw 3.125 while running. Startup current may be much more. Check your pump for its current draw (should be printed on the pump) and check it against the inverter's limits. It may be that the inverter is too light for the pump.

General inverter question. Running off of a car battery do I keep the car running or just juice the battery every now and then to keep the battery from dying:

Automotive batteries are designed for a quick draw of amperage (when starting) and then get constantly recharged using the alternator when driving. If you are using an auto battery for inversion, it will drain much quicker. Depending on how/where you are using it, you could charge the battery when a meter shows a voltage drop. Better recommendation would be to use a marine battery, which is a deep cycle battery. Deep cycle batteries last much longer between charges, as they are designed to have a constant draw (trolling motors, etc.).

I just bought a 800 watt converter, installed the battery connection wires and connected it to a marine deep cycle battery and the LCD window displays 0 W which in the guide indicates an overload or short...

It says 0 watts because there is no load on the inverter! Plug something in, like a 100W light, and you will see the display go to something near 100W. I don't think you have a problem, other, like most of us, we don't completely understand Chinglish. Good luck.

(Batteries may be substituted by using a deep cycle marine battery with the same specifications as described above, but the battery fluid sensor option will not function. Simply connect the battery fluid sensor to the positive terminal of the battery to disarm battery fluid sensor alarm).

I have a 1000 Watt Inverter, along with a regular car battery when the electricity goes out; Question: Can I use the 1000 Watt inverter and connect a 100 amp, deep cycle battery? I use regular house...

Yes, just be sure connections are heavy enough wire, and obviously the inverter uses 12 vdc input. Hook jumper wires positive to positive, negative to negative, on all 12 volt batteries. Deep cycle batteries will work better than car batteries. Just remember, when re-charging them, that they last longer when charged slowly, so don't use a high amp setting on charger and to monitor them closely, and do it in a well ventilated area, away from any ignition sources.

Mine overcharges battery's and boils all the acid

please sir the best battery for your inverter should be a deep cycle battery (dry cell),i believe your inverter has a temperature sensor for the bateries to prevent it from increase in temperature beyond its capacity

Appropriate size inverter for sump pumps need to find the amperage on the pump...your inverter is rated for 6.25 Amps...(750/120) will need an inverter bigger then the pump..I would suggest at least 1.5 times the size of the pump..bear in mind,..the inverter wasnt designed to start oversizing is needed..

Hope this helps

Tech Question

Automotive batteries are usually adequate for small inverters, (< 500 Watts). When used in a car, we suggest you run the vehicle of your engine occasionally while operating your inverter. If you use the inverter while the engine is off, you should start the engine regularly and let it run to charge the battery. Deep Cycle (marine) batteries are best for larger inverters as they are designed for several hundred charge/discharge cycles. (Automotive batteries wear out much more quickly after heavy discharge).
