Approx 1996 model- Have been having water leaking into freezer- water line is shut off. Now the entire freezer compartment on top is a large block of ice and dripping down. Is it possible to shut the temp in the freeezer down to 0 and let it defrost to get the ice out without turning off the fridge side? Then can maybe find where the water is coming from.

No, the fridge side gets it cold from the freezer. You can turn the freezer off and use a hairdryer to thaw it out and the fridge side won't loose much cold during that time.

Your water inlet valve may need replaced to fix the leak unless the leak is a hole in the water line.

Fridge leaks on the inside

The drain line in the freezer is blocked. It drains the water away after the defrost cycle. You will need to post your model number for me to be of more help.

Top drawer of freezer seems to work but large bottom drawer not freezing even at -5degrees. Can this be fixed?

This problem seems to be two sided. A refrigerator defrost it is supposed to take the water from defrost down a pipe located behind the freezer rear wall to a pan below the refrigerator where there is a fan blowing warm air over the water to evaporate back into your home or business. If that drain is blocked your refrigerator will accumulate a large block of ice and frost behind the rear panel of freezer and temperatures will warm considerably in fresh food compartment and freezer. Here is one site I want you to read over=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening and here=> Leaking Refrigerators here is a link to a service manual=> LFX25960xx Service Manual Let me know if this service manual is close enough to your model number. At this point I am looking for air blockage behind the rear panel of freezer. If air is being blocked by ice and frost you can use a hair drier to help speed you up while melting ice. If drain is blocked use whatever you can to open the drain line mentions on the links I sent you to and let me know what is found, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a top freezer/bottom refrigerator-6months old-no icemaker hooked up. There is water dripping continuously into the refrigerator compartment-some of it freezes and the rest accumulates in the...

Hello,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

Good luck

I hope this helps

Hello,
I dont know if you have a side by side or the freezer is on top,but thats a fairly common thing and the following is what i already wrote before what to check when it leaks like your experiencing.

SIDE BY SIDE

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

FREEZER ON TOP

My Kitchen Aid KSCS25INSS will defrost the freezer up to 57 degrees sometimes twice a day. I cannot use the ice maker because I end up with a large block of ice after one or two days.

57 degrees is pretty hot. If it occurs on a regular basis day to day, it sounds like a defrost cycle malfunction.
There is a calrod heater imbedded in the evaporator coil behind the panel in the freezer compartment. It comes on approx. 2 times a day. The compressor is shut off and the calrod (which looks a lot like the bake element in an electric range) is turned on. It gets quite hot, but a thermostat mounted on top of the evaporator coil, shuts the heater down when the coil reaches approx 50 degrees. If this thermostat ( often called a limiter ) fails to open in time, the temperature in the freezer coil box can easily reach 100 degrees or more. If so, this could be your problem. Remove the rear panel in the freezer compartment aand locate this small disc thermostat and replace with new.

I have water collecting on the iside of the refrigerator compartment. It is leaking through the air vent openings from the freezer compartment.

I am going to assume you have a defrost condensate blockage in the rear of the freezer and behind the rear panel where the evaporator dreains condensate after each defros. Please correct me if I am wrong.
The answer to finding the cause of the leak is where we need to begin. Most start in the freezer section behind the rear panel where the defrost condensate is drained during defrost. Sometimes the drain hole freezes over and the water drains down into the freezer creating a large area of frozen water. Other times i happens as the water leaves the drain in the freezer and follows its path to the pan below your refrigerator to re evaporate into the air inside your home. If leaking inside the fresh food compartment then the cup behind the control panel may be over flowing and leaking down the back wall of the refrigerator and will need to be taken apart and cleaned to allow the water to continue down to the pan below the refrigerator. Sludge and dust or even ice may be blocking this line. Below is a link to a page that may help you resolve and fix this. If you have more questions feel free to let me know. Water is leaking from freezer into lower compartment of kenmore

If you think it is the ice maker then shut down the water supply and see if the leak stops. Most likely though it is probably a blocked defrost drain.
