Question about Pentax Optio 555 Digital Camera
There is a possibility that the memory card is not properly inserted. Or, the string that pushes the memory card is misaligned.
If that is the case, to avoid further damage on the unit, its best if you can contact the manufacturer.

You will have to take apart the camera to see whats wrong with the card reader and then to correct the problem, it will be very difficult to try and fix it from the small memory card hole in the bottom of the camera.
taking it apart voids the warranty, but if done with great care it wont leave any marks on the camera and someone wouldn't be able to tell that it has been opened. ofcourse broken labels and such will be a dead giveaway.
To take apart the camera unscrew all the screws that you can from the outside, then notice the front and back of the camera, there is a crack or opening that you can slide your fingernail in on or use a plastic case opening tool or a plastic stick to go around the casing of the camera and release the plastic clips that hold the front and the back together.
when they come apart you will need to carefully disconnect any ribbon cables or similar that may be connected between the parts.
as the cameras case comes apart you should be able to see the card reader, if not you may have to take it apart a bit further.
once you get it visible, take a good look at it and insert the memory card, can you see what is blocking it from going in all the way? possibly theres a metallic part on the top or on the side that is out of position. you need to move it out from the way or back to its original position and it should let you put in the card.
it does not matter as far as I know if the ejection mechanism, works, if it doesn't work the camera should still be able to use the memory card without any problems aslong as it stays in the slot and doesn't drop out.

Normally unless it is pushed the card will not release but if this was pulled out it is possible that the card holder or the card itself was damaged. So remove the card and invert the camera so as to face the slot downward to your palm . Now tap into the camera several times to extract any broken pieces from the sd card slot. If not try to see within with a card shaped probe- a credit card cut out will do- so as to free the space within. Now please counter check your card with a card reader or another camera or PC to confirm if this works fine.
If so try again or else you will need technical help to open the camera to clear the slot contacts.
