Screen is off

Hi,
I bought MSI Megabook (Windows Vista Home Premium) two weeks ago, yesterday it froze (I do not know why) and I was not able to switch it off, so I waited till the battery was flat. Then I wanted to start the computer again, however the screen is black, the computer seems to be running. Shall I return it or is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance.

Katerina

With the machine only being two weeks old, I would RUN not walk back to the store for an exchange. This is a hardware malfunction or failure, and there is no way that the machine should have done this in such a short amount of time. Just tell them that the machine froze, you shut it down by holding the power button down (there was no other way), and now it won't boot. Don't tell them that you left it until the battery ran out, a sudden shut down due to a dead battery can cause damage, and they may give you a warranty run around for that. If they give you any type of run around, demand a manager, then demand he/she give you an exchange. Don't take the run around and don't be afraid to get loud. Managers back down quick to a loud irate customer, they don't like other customers to think badly of their store. NOTE: If a machine ever freezes, and they will, you should shut it down by holding the power button down. It takes a few seconds, but the power button will override the system and shut the machine down. Most freeze ups are just due to software glitches and will start right back up, but in your case it's hardware, since the machine will not start up at all.

I have acer asprse 5315 i just put windows vista home premium .. and it work for 1 week then my computer shut down and its appear on the screen you need a product key ... then i put my lap top product key...

Unfortunately, you have to have/purchase a product key for each copy of the Windows OS, in this case Vista. The XP key will not work. And the key has to be for that particular version ie: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

Thanks, Joe

Vista Home Premium locks up on a load

How long do you wait before you determine it is locked up? Vista uses minimum graphics to facilitate a faster install. It may seem like nothing is going on when Vista is loading in the background. If it is locking up try a reinstall. Are you upgrading or going a new install?

Cannot load "arthur" with widows vista home premium stops installing

Hello... Please go thru this. Souce:http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=573497
I may have a work around
It is a way to give admin privs to the msi file
First, create a file called Arthur.bat
- Open a folder, say C:\temp
- Right-click and select new, Text Document
- name it Arthur.bat
Next, edit the file
- right click the file and select edit
- put this in the editor ... msiexec /a d:\Arthur.msi
- save and exit
Then, right-click the file and select "Run as administrator"

Worked for me.

There is another msi file (ISScript11.msi) on the CD which I didn't run which may be needed ? But, I managed to play through the tutorial/start so ... we w ill see.

So, it is a permissions thing. Hopefully this will get passed on to the developers and they can resolve it tout-de-suite
