I turned on the TV, it strobed lots of colors at me but the menus and stuff were reduced to dancing monochromatic icons. Basically.. everything looked totally jacked with no video showing up and then it shut off leaving the red lamp light on. I thought it was finally time to replace the lamp, so I installed the new one that I bought over a year ago. No change. After resetting the system and unplugging and everything I could think of, if it even came on at all, it would flicker and shut off again. Mitsubishi won't help. They only warranty the lamps for 30 days (wish I had known a year ago). I got a Bravia in the meantime while I research this problem and try to get it repaired.. Maybe your problem is in the power supply circuit of your tv,but then try to replace the flyback first maybe there is no high voltage coming out on the cap.

TURNED ON TV HEARD SOUND PICTURE NEVER CAME ON... WENT OFF ONLY SHOWS A RED LIGHT UNDER THE LAMP. NOW WANT COME ON AT ALL... MITSUBISHI SAYS IT IS THE LAMP BUT BEFORE I PAY OVER $200 FOR A LAMP I WAS WONDERING WHAT ELSE I COULD DO/?? I HAVE ONLY HAD IT 17 MONTHS .....

My TV does the same thing had lamp replaced and it still foes it a guy at a tv repair shop said that it was the ballast power supply and I'm going to try that first because i would hate to have wasted 3000 for a tv and not be able to use it so i can understand the frustration.
