  • Setting up the Netgear Router
    Connect an Ethernet cable from the back of your Internet router--cable or DSL modem--to the WAN port on the back of the Netgear router.

    Connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the back of the Netgear router.
  • Open a web browser and type in "192.168.1.1" to access the router's web utility. Enter "admin" as the user name and "password" for the password when prompted, then press OK.
  • Click "Next" if you want to use the Smart Setup Wizard or Click on "No" if you want to configure the router yourself. if you run the setup wizard, follow the prompts to set up the router. Make sure your router is using DHCP, and enter the SSID security key when prompted. if you are not using the setup wizard, continue to the next step.

    Verify that your router is set for DHCP on the first screen you come to. DHCP is the default setting.
  • Click on "Wireless Settings" from the menu to the left, then enter the SSID that you want to use for the wireless network. The SSID can be anything you choose. Set the mode to "b and g."

    Scroll down and select your wireless security type and key. You can select any type of wireless security, but if you select WEP, then your key must consist of 10 characters using 0-9, a-f, and/or A-F. if you use one of the three WPA types, your password must be between 8-63 characters, but can be anything.

    Click "Apply" then exit the router utility and disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer and router.

Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Hi kelly,

    If you want to get the Network Key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page of your Router. To access your router just open a Browser then type 192.168.2.1, password is blank. Click on the Security under Wireless. You can change the security type of your rotuer to WPA, WEP or you can also Disable the security. Personalize the Passphrase or Network Key so that you can easily remember it.

    Rate me if this helps so I can help others.

    Thanks for using Fixya.

    Sorry but i didn't get it, Do you forget the Network Key of your wireless of you forget the login password for your belkin router?

    Let me tell you both solutions.

    1 If you forget the network key - then you can login to your belkin router and go to the wireless and you will get your network key there.

    2 If you forget he login password of your belkin router so just look at the back side of router there must be a reset button which will reset your router and password to the factory date.

    hope it will help you :)

    Having an issue getting my laptop connected to the internet. The wireless networks appear and it shows that i am connected to the linksys, however i get a dns server issue when i try to go online. It shows...

    Hi,
    I see that your having issues with you wireless connection, you mentioned that it is an old model Router that has a B wireless signal and that you are connected to the Router but you get an Error about the DNS having issues, try checking your Routers Network Key, make sure that your Network Key in the Laptop and Router are the same.
    - to get in your Belkin Router you must type in your Default Gateway on you browser ex. IE, Firefox 192.168.2.1 then press enter after typing your Belkin's Default Gateway you should get a window prompting you for a user name and password
    mvincentc_15.jpg

    your user name would be admin and the password leave it blank then press enter unless you have changed the user name and password setting of your Belkin.
    - check under wireless and security to see your Network Key/Security Key and copy what you have in you router and use it on your laptops network security to be able to access internet from your Belkin Router.
    Hope this helps.

    My hardrive was replaced and I cannot find the startup CD or network key.

    Depress the reset button, to default settings.

    Press and hold the "reset" button for at least 10 seconds, then release
    it. The lights on the Router will momentarily flash. The "router" light will
    begin to blink. When the "router" light becomes solid again, the restore
    is complete.

    Login into the router using a web browser from your pc and create a new network key.

    Using your Internet browser, you can access the Router's Web-Based Advanced User Interface. In your browser, type "192.168.2.1" (you do not need to type in anything else such as "http://" or "www"). Then press the "Enter" key. Try 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and repeat procedure if address is incorrect.

    Create a new network key

    Just bought a new Compaq wireless laptop keeps asking me for a security key. Is this my provider or The Belkin router It's old and not been used for a few years model F5D9230-4

    It is the router that you need to configure, to define:

    * SSID (a "name")

    * an encryption-level (use: WPA)

    * a password/security-key

    for your wireless network.

    Then, you can connect to your network.

    How do I find out the security key for belkin router?

    if you want to remove security key, just reset the router by pressing the hole or reset button and then type in brower 192.168.1.1 and access in your router.then you can assign new security if you want or leave without security. just connect your computer by hard wire and by same wire other end of this wire will connect to router. don't need to do anythig. computer n router knows best everything else what to do.

    Wireless connection to belkin g router model no. f5d7230-4

    You need to access the setup page of the router using connected computer.

    In your browser's address bar, type 192.168.2.1.

    By default, leave the password blank.

    On the Belkin setup page, go to Wireless.

    Take note of the SSID. This is the name of your wireless connection.

    Then go to Security under Wireless. Copy the network key.

    On your friend's laptop, view the available wireless networks, you should see the SSID, then just enter the network key.

    I hope this helps!

    Need network key for belkin g+ router 802.11g

    if you own the router and you don't know the network key or forgot it.
    you need to reset your router, please check the intructions that came with it. if you haven't change the admin password (which is by deafult blank) go into the admin page and change or delete the network password doing something similar to this
    if you don't have or can't remember the admin password you need to restore the router to defaults to reconfigure it

    if you don't own the router and don't know the network key you need to ask the router owner for the key or use a program to hack into the router signal and attempt to figure the key out. (not recommended as it is ilegal)

    Network key for belkin router

    are you referring to the Encryption key - the WEP key?  You need to get that from the person who takes care of the router.  If YOU are the person who administers the router, then you need to reset it to the default factory settings.
