Hi there, the disks will only work if you have the drive that came with the laptop/dekstop

You will need to get hold of an OEM version of Windows XP Home - you can reinstall from scratch, but will need to install the drives etc for your computer seperately,

You will use the licence key that was proved with your computer.

That will sort it out.

Regards

Chris

Hello, i have a dell xps m1210 laptop. i was using my computer and when i want to restore to factory settings i was using ctrl f11 combination and restoring back. but i now installed windows 7 on c drive....

No the hidden partions rely on the main partion to have some files still intact to complete a repair of the operating sytem then restores the files back to thair factory settings, to put xp back on you will need the factory recovery cd or dvd. If you buy a copy of xp and install it then ust eht recovery it should restore it to factory with drivers as well.

WD drive won't work as master when Seagate 80GB drive connected as slave.

Hi,

The jumpers on the Seagate must be set to slave.

otherwise they are conflicting for the Active partion and bootloader.

Software

Your system has a hidden partition with Vista and all your drivers on it, you need to decide wether to keep this partition in tact (incase you want to install Vista again) or to delete it and use the whole drives available space making it one partition instead of two.
ONLY delete the recovery partition if you have a copy of windows XP that you OWN. otherwise if you have problems again, you will have to find a disk again.
You will need a copy of windows xp, set the bios to boot to the cd/dvd rom in the BIOS and boot the system with the xp disk, do a full install first delete any partitions (unless you save the hidden partition, then just delete the large partion)
Repartition the empty space , then format the drive, which you will be prompted to do after partitioning, then the cd will install windows. follow the prompts.
Once finished , go here http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?website=AcerPanAm.com&siteid=7117&areaid=2&formid=3394#results
and download the 5 XP drivers for your system, install the chipset andcpu driver , then proceed to the NIC, audio and video.
You will then need to install any programs you had installed before. keep in mind a vista version of software may not operate correctly on XP. windows xp is about 130 dollars for the disk , but you can find copys on ebay for around 90.
poast again if you need more help

Partition

Hi,
The solution to your problem is very simple.
First make two partions of your harddrive, To do so:
-Open up control panel.
-Click open Administrative Tools.
-Click open Computer Managment.
-Then Click on Disk Managment on the right side.
-Choose your main Harddrive, Right click and click Shrink Drive
The amount you Shrink will became your second partions that you can put any OS you want.

After you Have made two partions Install the Vista Os on the second partion(its usually named D:).Soon after the installation is done choose vista from the OS choice menu.
-Log into Vista
-Click on the Drive that has XP installed into and by using the ".exe" files of the software you want to install. Install the software onto vista.
And there you go, now you have:
-Vista N XP on two seperate drives.
-And your vista has the software you wanted.

Not able to restore my registry settings...

Hi,
try re-installing windows over the top of your existing operating system.
If you get a prompt during setup, stating that you already have files. tick leave intact. or similar.
this can sometimes remedy faults, as windows will only replace missing-deleted or corrupt files on the hard drive.
Your other option, is to obtain disk partioning software and setup a seperate partion on the drive, install the operating system here, so that you can access the first partion.
just out of curiosity, did you go to Tools/folder options/View and tick the show hidden files And Folders checkbox ?

if you have windows 98 boot disk put that in, the firt thing you do is to go to f-disk and change the partions in it, then format c: drive. take out disk in A drive put in New windows XP CD and restart. the disk will run and install itself. and thats it. right now your partions are set to read only windows 95, 98, there are 2 options to choose from I belive the one you need is 32.
