Computer Monitor Problem or anything else

Compaq Monitor: earlier there was no problem, but now-a-days when I turn it on (I have UPS connection also) the screen brightness increases gradually and after some time it becomes completely white, I can't see anything. Initially when the problem started I found that after some time it was normal- but, suddenly it flashes light with full brightness and I have to stop working. Now it is completely white from the begining when I turn it on.
Is this problem can be solved at home? please tell.
I have a multimeter(digital), continuity tester and other tools for my different purposes.

Contrast and brightness controls usually come from one chip. You can try looking up the specs of the chip online and then determine which pin of the chip conrols brightness. Usually faulty Electrolytic capacitors act like the simptoms you described. Find the Electrolytic capacitor connect in the brightness circuit and you will most likly fix your problem. The chip that contols the brightness might also be faulty. Good luck.

Problem in Samtron 45Bn Monitor

Try connecting the monitor to the mains instead of the UPS.
If it works OK then the problem maybe the UPS and that it is very close to the max output of the UPS.
If not then the monitor is faulty.

Powering down

your not very clear but here is what I'm assuming your saying.

Pins 5 & 6 - Any-Mode Shutdown

1. Pin 6 of the 9-pin communication connector is used for "Any-Mode Shutdown"

of the UPS output. This control input may be used in special applications

to disable the UPS output power-both Inverter and Bypass.

2. The Options tab allows the behavior of the Any-Mode Shutdown feature to

be modified. When the program opens, or the REFRESH button is pressed,

the UPS setting is read by the configuration program and displayed.

Auto-Enable Output

Pin 6 Logic

If version 1.6 (or later) is used with an earlier Liebert GXT2U model (with an

earlier UPS firmware version), the Any-Mode Shutdown features cannot be

changed.

If the configuration program is used with an earlier UPS model (with an

earlier UPS firmware version) that does not support the modification of these

settings, the Options tab will display a reminder of the factory default

settings. These cannot be changed.

! WARNING

Note that when this option is selected and the UPS output is

disabled using Pin 6, the UPS output can turn on automatically

and without warning if the Pin 6 connection is changed.

! WARNING

DO NOT CHANGE THIS OPTION from the factory default

setting unless you are ready to install a normally-closed

connection between Pins 5 & 6. This connection must be

maintained to use the UPS or to use the configuration program

again, including the ability to change the UPS setting back to the
default setting using the configuration

1) Is this a laptop or a desktop?
2) What OS are you running?
3) When was the last time that it booted successfully? Did anything change then? Did you upgrade the OS? Did you upgrade the software (firmware) on the processor (Intel or AMD)?
4) Do you see anything on the screen? Compaq logo? Boot options?

The monitor is going itself to the Power Saver mode.It is not a problem of the monitor. This happens when there is no signal on the monitor. The monitor will display properly when there is an output signal on it.Please connect it to the computer and check that the output signals from the motherboard are proper. Also check both DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and VGA (Video Graphics Array)cables on the monitor.

Display fails after a couple of seconds

Connecting a different computer that works to it doesn't fix the problem(what does that mean, its not CLEAR at all)
my guess is you meant the new PC fails on this bad monitor , too.

ok the monitor fails on PC #2, sure....
so the monitor is bad, why ask for help, buy a new monitor.
why spend $100 to fix it when new is %50
why>?

your not going to fix any monitor, here, on fixya,
but there is one thing to check the very old monitors from compaq
ive answered this 4 times here now.
has menu botton
see that? push that now on the monitor
see that menu..
? one menu selection , has silly horrible, power saver timer on it
and a RTC clock that keeps time of day, (pc can be OFF)
if the power saver is on , get it off now, and if paranoid set the clock.
id set it. so its double safe, see?
this happened back in 2002.
i read you users guide for you its a 2001. oops, its got the above BS.

read page 18 and all related pages to this. clock and saver.
page 18 there, page 16 real.
if it one , the INANE thing will go to saver at odd times.
later this was removed for VESA , update, remote sleep rules. and time.

Less then 5 minutes runtime at minimal load

You gave no reasons why you thought it was simply a software setting, so I gave you a link below for some management software. The HP R3000 UPS supports HP Power Management Software (CPM) version 1.8. http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/power-protection/software/legacy-software.html In addition the HP R3000 UPS also supports the LanSafe III management software (discontinued). My first question is: When were the batteries last changed? If they haven't been changed in 3 or so years, then it's probably low batteries, meaning they are old and cannot take a charge anymore.
