Incoming faxes print with blotchy black streaks on the right hand side of each page rendering it essentially unreadable. What is causing this and how do we fix it? Thank you.

SOURCE: Blank Streaks

streaks are caused either by the toner, drum, lamp or fuser.

If you make a copy and it does not show a streak then it was done by the person sending the fax. BUT, check this,

open door and take out toner cartridge. look for a thin glass that is on the bottom of the machine and wipe it. Toner spills will cause a black streak.

SOURCE: thick black streaks on pages coming through the fax

remove the toner cartridge and you should be able to see the matching black streaks on it, if it is the problem .....don't bother trying to clean it , it is supposed to be self cleaning and you can't improve this look...replace

SOURCE: black streaks on prints

Where the original page that you wish scanned/faxed there will be a device called a "scan part". This device "reads" the paper to be faxed/scanned as it passes. It usually is found very near where the paper to be faxed goes in.
If there is a spec of debris on this part it will cause a fine line straight down the document. If its dirty, the document will be too! Just give it a good cleaning and you should be fine.

My brother MFC 8500 is receiving alright but everything I send out has a big black streak going down the right side of the page. Confirmation page also has big black streak.

Let me see if I got this right.

The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it.
Cool! So far so good.
Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear.
The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned.
Logical!

However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine.
The scanner has no rol in either situation.

Now I'm lost!

Right hand side of page has 1-1/2 inch horizontal streaks down the side

The scanning bar has 28 leds on it and on my 4100 the 6 leds on the right side were flashing on and off,it could be abad connection on that part of the scanning bar caused by a jamed paper.
to tell if your machine is a printing problem or a scanning problem print out the help menu {press the reports key then the 1 key} if it prints clear then every thing with the print cartrige is ok and the problem is in the scanning part of the machine.

We have a Brother intellifax 4750e. When we send a fax, there is a black streak down the right hand side of the paper. When we receive a fax, the streak is not there. The streak is about 1" wide. ...

Try cleaning the rollers with rubbing alcohol using a good quality paper towels, I find there is a buildup on the rollers causing streaking on the paper. If that fails the print head must be suspect.

WE HAVE A FAX MACHINE THAT HAS A BLACK LINE GOING DOWN THE PAGE WITH FAX IN AND FAX OUT

For outgoing fax lines, check your scaner rail for any streaks, dirts or similar and clean scaner.
For incoming fax streaks, you can only check your drum unit for lines on surface and replace it, or lines is there because other side has dirt or similar on their scaner.

Hope that helps!

Received fax is unreadable or blurry
Please go through the checklist below to see if the suggested action(s) can resolve the issue.

* Make sure the copy function is working well.
* Print a Clean nozzle page from the Maintenance menu. If the printout has unexpected white or color horizontal streaks or missing portions, print the Clean nozzle page again. If you are still experiencing streaks or mission portions, you may need to replace your cartridge(s).
* The cartridges may need to be aligned.
* You may need to ask the sender to increase their fax quality.

Sent fax is unreadable or blurry.

1. If the receiving party indicates that the fax output is unreadable or blurry, you may want to try increasing the fax quality.
2. Check the scanner glass for excess amounts of smudges and/or fingerprints. If the scanner glass needs cleaning, moisten a clean, lint-free cloth and gently wipe the scanner glass. Make sure the scanner glass is dry before scanning the next document.
