If defrost timer is clockworks type, manually force timer into run mode using flat blade screwdriver. If forcing works, replace defrost timer ($25.00 approx).

My Hotpoint RLFM171P 6' Larder Fridge is running constantly. I am in the process of replacing the thermostat but wonder if this fridge has a defrost timer and if so where it might be located.

If the fridge is overcooling it could be the thermostat. If the defrost panel is permanently switched on, overcooling might not be noticed but the condenser will become quite hot.

If running continuously, there is no overcooling and the condenser remains cool, either the compressor is defective or the refrigerant has leaked away.

It doesn't matter what setting I put my fridge at it still stays warm it wasn't plugged in an sat for 1 r I was wondering if there is a rest button?

No reset button. Could be defrost timer is stuck in defrost. Or bad thermostat or control board. Or bad compressor. Or sealed system blockage or leak.

I have a hotpoint fridge bottom freezer and after I had filled the freezer with my shopping yesterday, it started making a shreeking noise, I thought maybe it needed defrosting, which it did, so I...

If both section are not working as required then its compressor fault. The noise you noticed must be from compressor related parts, that are fan,the motor and relay. But If freezer is getting over cold and friezed and fridge section not getting cold then Its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 4 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

Hotpoint ffa97p - the fridge is too cold and not responding to temperature changing

I'm assuming you're meaning that you reset the "cold control" in the refrigerator area and it is not responding. Try resetting the T stat in the freezer to between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 and see if the unit continues to run on. If I have this the other way around, set the "cold control" the same as the T stat. The "cold control" is just a flapper door, it doesn't control the compressor only the T stat in the freezer does..
If the T stat is set as I said and the unit just keeps on running and never shuts down except to defrost, the T stat is bad and needs replaced.
There is a chance that the flapper door in the "cold control" is stuck wide open. Removing the cover and inspecting it might tell you if that's happening.

Freezer and fridge not cold

Sounds like you have a stuck compressor. The buzz is the compressor trying to run but cannot.
A refrigeration mechanic with an hermetic compressor tester can reverse operate the compressor to get it unstuck

Hotpoint rfa18 Fridge Freezer

Is the back wall full of frost? If so you have a defrost problem, most likely the defrost is stuck in the run mode. this is located above the controls area in the fridge.

Food is defrosting in my hotpoint frost free fridge/freezer

Can you hear the compressor running? Is the fan inside the freezer running? It could be that a wire connection has come loose during the move. Was the fridge laid on it's side during the move? If so you probably have compressor oil restricting the refrigerant system. If compressor and fan are running you will probably need a qualified refrigeration tech to check it out.

Hot point side by side

Could be stuck in "defrost" mode. Happens a lot. See if you can hear if the compressor is running or the compressor cooling fan is running (in back underneath the unit). Worse case is the refrigerant leaked out and you have a sealed system problem.
