I have ran the netgear CD that came with the package, but once it gets to the stage of detecting adapter and I plug in the netgear adapter it will stay like that for a long time and won't actually continue the installation process. I've also tried downloading the software version from netgear site and tried intalling that but same thing happens. Also, when I plug the adapter in and windows auto installs locates driver the blue light is on during this time, however, once it finishes successfully the blue light is turned off. Then I click on Next for the install software to start detecting adapter. I've also tried all USB ports, install, uninstall (if doesnt work), restart, and then install again many times to no avail. Extremely frustrating! I have windows vista 32bit. Any help on this?ss. I've also tried downloading the software version from netgear site and tried intalling that but same thing happens. Try connecting direct to USB port without extension cable. Disable anti-virus software temporarily while installing drivers.

SOURCE: Need working Windows 7 driver for Linksys WUSB54G V.1.0 Adapter

This driver should work with Vista, and based on the FAQ it should work with 64-bit although it wasn't designed for the 64-bit OS.

If the link doesn't work, let me know. I'll direct you to the download page to retrieve the driver.

SOURCE: Belkin Wireless USB Adapter not detected!

This device is well known for the high level of current draw that it requires in order to work. I would suggest that you remove all other unnecessary USB devices and try the device again. It is more than likely that your system will find the device.

The quickest way of ensuring continued usage, when you have numerous USB devices, is to purchased a powered USB hub and ensure that the Wireless adapter is connected to one of the powered USB ports on the hub.

Hope that helps.

It looks like your NetGear WNA3100 is dead out of the box.
The software looks like it operating correctly (runs the installed diag, tries to detect, etc.), but
the software isn't having any luck finding the hardware.
The reason that the adapter is disabled in Device Management, is that the software seems
to have correctly installed the driver, but Windows couldn't detect (plug & play) the device, so
Windows didn't enable the device driver - Windows won't load a driver for a non-existent device.
Other (remote) possibilities:
(a) Wi-Fi adapter plugged into a bad USB port. - try another port.
(b) there's a little corrosion on USB contacts of USB port or WNA3100. Try plugging adapter
in and out of the port a few times (this shines up the contacts a bit).
(c) there's a slight misalignment of contacts within the USB connector or either the laptop, or
the WNA3100.
Your fix may be returning the NetGear WNA3100 to the retailer for an exchange.

You can manually access the routher by typing 192.168.1.1 into the web browser once it has connected to the internet. You then can set up wireless access points and set a WEP, etc for security. This would also allow your adaptor to connect to the router once you have set everything up. The default username and pass for routers is usally: User: admin ...password: password

2. restart computer and boot up in safe mode (hold F8 after turning on comp before windows logo comes up)
