First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Let me know if you need further assistance. I cant see my external lacie hard drive on my mac with the Lacie Network Assistant. The hard drive is visible with the finder though. With the dashboard and with the finder I am able to move or copy files...

Hello,
for the product that you selected for your question, it is impossible for the LaCie Network Assistant to see it because it is a Local drive (USB).
The LaCie Network Assistant only detects the Network LaCie drives.

Hi dear smart guys! :) I just plugged in my lacie and what happends is, that nothing actually happends :( No pop up on screen, can't find it when i'm looking under "computer" I DO see it...

It's definitely not Win7. The Operating system has nothing to do with it. You'd need to isolate the issue first. It should be just a plug and play device like a usb flash drive.

Try plugging the HDD to another computer. If it works, then it's a problem with the computer. If it doesn't, then you can focus on the HDD itself.

You can also try the following steps:
- Try turning the computer on while the USB HDD is plugged to see if it's going to be detected. Plug it directly to the usb port and not thru a hub or extended usb cord.
- Go to the device manager and remove all of the USB host controller under USB controller, which is usually the last controllers located below. Then follow the step above.

There are other things that you can do to check it but try the steps above first and let me know what happens before we go further.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
your drive suffered a head crash and the only way to get the data from it now is with a Data recovery center. If you do not need the data and your drive is under warranty, contact LaCie to get a replacement.

Hi if I connect my lacie on the laptop it doesn't

That's why it's called 'Plug and Pray.'
Try plugging in the drive while your laptop is off, then power it up.
Watch the lower right quadrant of the Desktop to see if Windows pops up a box that says 'found new hardware.' If it does, Win may have a driver in its library and install it.

Dead hard drive

Try unplugging the usb connector and plugging it back in. Your pc shouls recognize the installed component automatically. Also, some external hard drives work like normal pc's do: hold the power button in longer until something happens. Hope this helps.

Computer will not boot with Lacie Desktop Hard Disk connected.

You can enter the bios on bootup by pressing a special key to force your computer to go into BIOS mode. What key this is varies by computer, often it is F8, F10, sometines F11. Anyway, use the key for your computer, and change to boot modus to not first boot from USB.

Can't access my lacie external hard drive

I would first plug it in to a different PC, this will tell you if the problem is the Lacie or Windows Vista.
if it works on a different PC then remove it from Device manager or go to the Lacie website for Vista updates.

If it does not work on a different PC then there are 3 possibilities
1. the drive got cleared data lost
2. the enclosure is bad (I would bet on this)
3. the drive is bad

purchase a USB enclosure, remove the drive and install it in the new enclosure plug in and test.

Hope this helps
