Get a clean white rag and soak it up is it coolant color or is it clear water? coolant color or smell you have a bad heater core or hose connection to heater core is leaking. clear then you have a window seal or vent and possibly a pluged drain tube for the air cond. I don't know what state your in or water color so this is the best diag i can give but its a start for your checks

Does this happen when using the a/c? The evaporator drain tube may be clogged.

SOURCE: water in the rear passenger footwell

Not unless it was blowing like stink. Was a rear window left open? Water could get in around the rear window and find it's way there. Have someone spray the car with a hose while you're in it or ride back there through a car wash. Have a friend help and you buy the treat.

Take the car through a car wash and watch for leaks. Usually window seals. You can buy replacement window seals

SOURCE: water collecting in the rear passenger footwell

do you have a sunroof?? open the front doors and look for a rubber spout sticking down at a 45* angle. milk it a bit and water might flow out. I carefully cut mine a bit so this wouldn"t happen again.,..

If this did the trick please let me know

My Mazda 6 stops when its raining and the electrics go out, I'll sit 10 min it will restart again drive for a short distance then stop again, this only happens when its raining

Check where the ECU is mounted as I have an MX-5 & the ECU is mounted in the passenger side footwell & when it was raining the soft-top was letting water in at the rear & it was collecting in the footwell & affecting the ECU but only when the weather was wet. Worth a look?

best thing to do is get a friend to hold a water hose get in the trunk with a flashlight and see if water gets in. if not go inside the cab of the car and have your friend run water on the roof of the car. if it has a sunroof clean the drains.

Leaking inside the car everytime it rains

There is probably a drainage hole underneath the cowling under your windshield wipers. They're supposed to allow the water to drain out into the wheel well. See if the passengers side is plugged up. Collected water has to go somewhere and it will always find a place.

Electrical fault

Under the carpet of the footwell is an ECU (electronic control unit). Its a convenience control unit and it manages all the electrical things you described, and more. The water has obviously caused a fault with the unit. You will probably need a new ECU which will need to be coded, ideally at a dealer. They are not cheap so be sure to fix the leak at the same time to prevent a repeat. I have heard of rain water collecting at the bottom of the doors and then spilling over the seals. Also on avants rear washer pipes can pop apart in this area.
