Inside there are 3 can capacitors that dry out and pop the top open they could be 470uf - 35volts replace with the same and it should work again. $5.00 for parts

Samsung syncmaster 172v Screen goes black after about one second. Comes back to normal after turned off, but goes black again in about one second. Rebooting computer has not fixed this.

Sorry it is like your monitor needs service. Electrolytic condensators in power supply need to be changed. Give it to an electronic shop, it is a job for a specialist.

Unlikely unless you discharged a large static shock into the connector as you were doing this. I have never seen a monitor or computer video port damaged by connecting the cable while power is on.

Try unplugging the power cable to the monitor for 10min or more and then reconnect and see if it starts to work.

Screen is black and the green light is flashing

Monitor is definitely bad then, could be bad capacitors on the power board but getting it repaired at a shop would cost more then just buying a brand new monitor.

173v flat lcd black screen

I've had a similar problem with my 173v monitor since I bought it a few years ago. When I start my computer, Mac or PC (I've connected it to both), the screen remains black and the green power light flickers once a second, almost like it's twitching - it's different from the blink it makes when the computer isn't turned on but the monitor is. Like kronem, I have to unplug the line from the monitor to the computer, wait for the monitor to register no input, and then plug the monitor in again before it displays anything. I've never figured out a way around the problem - I hate it!
