When in doubt, pull out the instruction sheet. Solved it by some preliminary steps I didn't know were necessary.

Scanner doesn't work. It says no scan options,

You can check if the scanner driver is still installed by going to Control Panel\Scanners and cameras (if you have windows vista, you need to be in "classic view" in control panel)

If you see the HP scanner listed there, you can double click on it to run the windows scan wizard.
If this works you just need to find some scanning software, not necessary the HP one.

If there is no scanner listed, you will need to download the software and drivers which you can most likely find on the HP website.

Scan using the HP OfficeJet 4215 Printer

The problem is with Windows Vista...it does not recognize the scan button when you touch it on the scanner. There are two ways around this:
Go to Programs / Windows Fax & Scan / Click new scan / click file and then click scan
OR
Go to Accessories / Paint / Cick File /click from scanner or camera / click scan

Installation cd for officejet 4215

Hello
if you lost your hp cd you should download the "HP Full Feature software/driver: No Network Support" and then install it. choose your printer here and OS then the HP Full Feature software/driver: No Network Support the size of the file is 364.59M. that´s the best alternative to go, if you just want simple software and drivers choose the HP Basic Feature software/driver

good luck
