I Have the Thompson DT16300-16 and have a similar problem to a few posters, in that the red led continually flashes the machine is 16 month old and is junk.
I called top up tv and they said it was done,as it was when an update was sent and between the update and the ariel signal the signal was interupted for a split second causing a bug to crash the machine.
There was not a repair they could send me through the airwaves so basically by a new machine.

I feel agrieved that something the control costs me money..

  • fozzy470 May 04, 2009

same problem as everyone the box wont come off the orange light. it flashes every now and then but still wont work. i phoned asda direct who i brought the box from in jan 09 they said they have had over 200 calls this morning and have been advising people to switch it off till tomorrow as by then the problem should have been fixed..

  • Anonymous May 04, 2009

Add me to the list. I thought it was my box and have spent 3 hours + trying to fix it. I wish they would leave my box alone over night as some of their "Ideas" are not mine e.g. changing the time left on the library from hours left to a %. not a lot of use to man or beast. Thanks to the user above for ringing and clarifying the issue with Top-up-TV

orange light on since this morning

  • kevinclark07 May 04, 2009

Hi I have or DID have the same problem. I started to look for the receipt to take it back to the shop.
I read the comments on here to re-set the box.
We did have Top-up TV when we 1st got the box, never found the extra Chanel's worth having so canceled the deal. We left the card in and like all the others we had an amber light for two days.

I did a re-set (after removing the Top up TV card 1st) Nothing happened the 1st time so I tried it again, this time being a bit more quicker hitting the U D L R buttons.
The instructions posted by other site users say it will re boot switching it self back on. This did not happen on mine, it just stayed on standby. I left it for over 3 Min's (red light) then turned on, hey presto it works fine. Yes lost my recordings but scanned for Chanel's and tested a recording. Back like new.. so thanks to previous posts.

  • Anonymous May 04, 2009

Me too with the amber light thingy and not much else on the super digi recorder box. Thanks to all who have contributed as it is good to know I am not alone.

  • lkd1 May 04, 2009

I had the same problem as everybody else, could not get standby to go green. used the solution 4 and all working again after going through rescan. Did lose data. Just a point when solution mentions power up and hold standby till bleeping light. This is the Red light that come on it blinks after it show red for a few seconds. This may help as i must have a good twenty goes before i got the combination correct.

I have had the same problem since Sundday. Amber light flashes 3 times then green light flashes approx 26 times, this sequence is repeated every minute. I will wait until tomorrow to see if TUTV can fix the problem before trying solution 4.

  • Anonymous May 05, 2009

Discovered mine had crashed at 6.30 am, but hoped for best. Spent ages trying to sort (turning off and on!!, checking connections, blaming cats). The pull out lead, direction buttons etc worked treat. Can't believe I'v lost recordings though - 2 series plus films. Agree with other guest - prefer knowing how many hours left not %.
    Cheers all, H

  • amanson May 05, 2009

Spoke to TUTV they suggested a different approach turn it off and then back on after 10 seconds then press the power standby button TEN times then Menu OK leave it 90 seconds then pull the mains cable out for 10 seconds then again press the standby button ten times when the amber light flashes followed by Up down Left Right and it should come back on after 2 -3 mins///didn't work for me but they assured me I would NOT lose any recordings

Spoke to the people who sold me it and they said TUTV may be down til Friday at least !!!!!!! Diabolical service they offered to give me a refund and will pick my box up needless to say i took up their offer as this is easily the worst piece of electronic sI have bought in 25 years

I'm off to buy something else any suggestions for a decent box that will do what it says on the tin

Try Resetting the box to its factory setting:

  • Menu > Setup > Help
  • Then press the Green Button (Even though it doesn't show as an option)
  • Then press the Red button for a full reset
Warning: You will lose all data on the Hard Disk!

I did this when mine wouldn't record anything and dumped all my pre-recorded programs.
Worked a treat.

Does your Thomson DTi6300 fail to power on? If your Thomson DTi6300 box will not come out of standby (to solid green light) and you have tried to power the box off and on at the wall at least twice, the please try the following procedure noting that this will unfortunately cause your recordings to be lost.

Step 1: Power cycle
First of all, remove the power to the box and wait 20 seconds before restoring power.
Wait while the box tries to restart and allow 2 -3 minutes for this to complete.
Try this at least twice.
If it doesn’t go to the solid green light then proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Front Panel Reset
Note: you will need to be able access the back of the DTR and the front panel buttons

1. Remove power to the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the DTR.
2. Wait 20 seconds and restore the power cable while holding in the standby/power on button on the front panel of the DTR.
3. Release the standby button immediately you see a light ‘blip’ on the DTR front display and then immediately press the following front panel arrow buttons in sequence Up>Down>Left>Right
4.The DTR will now show the Orange LED with the Green LED flashing until the format has been completed in about 60 seconds. The DTR will return to ON automatically.
5. If requested, perform a channel scan to complete the operation

  • Anonymous May 06, 2009

I've just bit the bullet and done mine today.

Unplug the power cable, wait at least 20 secs, the plug the cable back in, start repeatedly pressing the power/standby button on the front.

Wait for the amber light to go steady and stop pressing the power/standby button and then press up, down, left, right in quick succession. Note, it's not the first quick flash, or subsequent flashes, but as soon as it goes steady, I think it's after 3 flashes it goes steady.

The green light should start flashing and after about 1 minute the red light should come on.

I actually disconnected mine from the TV and hifi and did it in my kitchen just so it was easier to access the buttons

Have just spoken with Top Up TV, they are aware of this problem and are working on it, they have told me how to reset the box, but be aware that everything you have saved on the box will be erased.
1. Turn the box off for 10 seconds at the mains.
2. Reconnect the power supply and press the standby button on the front of the box until you see      the amber light.
3. As soon as the amber light appears release the standby button and immediately you must use    the arrows on the front of the box, press up, down, left then right arrows. This reboots the box.
4. When the red light appears on the front of the box press the DTI button on your remote control.
I have two of these boxes, one is the 160gb and the other 250gb, this has worked on both boxes. You may have to repeat this several times as you must get the timing right with the buttons you need to press.  Good Luck and hopefully this will work for anyone having this problem.

This solution worked for me after 2 attempts. The lights stopped flashing immediately and the box came to life after about 1 hour. I did not lose any of my library and also the issue of % left instead of hours has now reverted back to hours left.. RESULT. I can not of course guarantee this will work or you won't lose your library only that it worked for me and it appears others and there is a chance your library will be saved. From TUTV help site
What to do: if you have a solid amber light If the power light on the box will not change from solid Amber to solid Red then it is possible that a problem has occurred with the current in use software. Before attempting a fix, power the box off and on at the power socket and then wait at least 5 minutes for the solid RED lamp to appear.
If it still remains solid Amber and the box will not come out of standby to ON (Green light) then this can be corrected using the software revert procedure which is done using the box front panel buttons as follows:

1. Remove power to the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the box.

2. Wait 20 seconds and then restore the power cable while pressing the standby button repeatedly on the front panel of the box.

3. Release the standby button immediately when you see a lamp flash on the box's front display, and then immediately press the following front panel arrow buttons in this sequence:

- Menu
- OK

Note: you have to do this quickly and in sequence

4.The Orange light will flash and the STB will then reboot and should return with the previous version of software.

5. The box will now be running with the previous software version but it will automatically update with the latest version within approx 2 hours and you will be notified by message which will appear in the Message area within the Main Menu.

good luck

My Thomson digital tv recorder 500GB DT16021TUT is not taking commands from remote control after freezing when trying to set timed recording

First of all, check the remote control handset for its infrared emission. If found OK, try a reset to this set, and check further. Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If the remote control is found OK; check and replace the infra-red sensor inside the TV. Contact any service technician
There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset; and the other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight; will be better. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked above.

LCD Thomson 32LB040S5

I assume you have already tried using the buttons on the side of the TV to adjust it? I would just do a factory reset on it. Enter the TV main menu. Select factory reset to return the TV Menu settings to the factory default values. If this does not fix it unplug to TV for 45min to do a complete hard reset.

My thomson DTI6300 digital TV recorder shows that it is recording but does not stop at the required time. No recording is actually made and the message comes up ''recording failed''. This happens whatever...

If you have no recordings and it's playing up, I'd do a complete reset as follows;

Restore Factory Defaults
This will restore all the factory settings and erase the contents of the box.
Menu>Set-up>Help>Green>Red

Format HDD
This will re-partition and re-format the hard drive.
Menu>Set-up>Help>Green>Blue

This will wipe everything you have recorded. It will also dump your 14 day Electronic Program Guide which will take upto a day to reload. Leave the unit on standby.

You might want to take this opporunity to do a channel scan as well.

Thomson DT!6300-16 has stopped working

Usually to fix most odd problems on the Thomson digi box you should do a hard disk format every couple of months, select menu, setup, help,
press green button on remote
this shows advanced menu, press blue button, warning should show,
press green button to proceed
takes about 2mins you lose all recorded programs

If the problem is the box stays at red, and won't switch on,
pull the mains plug wait a few secs then push and hold the the standby
button on the main box (not remote) then insert mains plug, as soon as the
red light flashes release the standby button and very quickly press
menu and OK in that order, don't hang about, it has to be done very quickly
I had to do it several times before I got it right, this loads a preloaded firmware
and the box will come alive again the box will upload new firmware in a couple of hours.

good luck from Ron.........

Frozen hard drive

If you have a Thomson DT16300, here's a handy fix that address freeze ups, lack of reception and problems on your Hard Disk:

goto MENU screen
goto SETUP screen
goto HELP screen
At HELP screen, Enter 1397 - this accesses the engineer panel - you can reformat the HDD in this menu - you will lose all recorded programmes and planned recordings but it clears locked or corrupted files

OR - at the HELP screen, press the GREEN button

On the lower half of the screen youwill see 3 options:

Blue - Reformat HDD - clears all the memory/HDD - useful if you have a corrupted file - you will lose all recorded programmes though

Red - reset the whole box to factory settings - good if you have a locked box or reception problems or cannto scan for new channels. It goes back to when you bought the box, so you will have to input favourites and planned recordings again

Yellow - Software revert - allows you to go back to the previous software driver - you may lose new functions, but you can always restore it back again using the same feature
