Could you please give some insight of the purpose of the two oil ports at the base of the engine as well as the one adjacent to the crank case.

I don't know if your power washer is like mine.
Oil ports at base of engine are for 10-W-30 motor oil and lubricate the engine, just like a car engine.
Oil comes up a bit more than half-way on dip stick.

Oil port on pump is for SAE20 or SAE30 non-detergent motor oil.
Oil fills about half way up inside pump housing.

Do not turn engine over or on its side to drain oil or oil will drain into carburetor.
Use a siphon to drain oil and tip machine up about 60 degrees

Where does the impulse line go to from the engine block.?

There are two "impulse line(s)" on a typical "2 stroke chain saw.

One goes from the intake or crank case to the carburetor to drive the diaphragm "pump". Sometimes this "line" is built into the intake or transfer port and back to the carb by passage ways drilled into each and mating thru the gasket. The pressure pulses drive the "pumper carb" to deliver the gas, whether the upside down, sideways or vertical.

The other impulse line will go from the intake or crank case (between the carb and crank case) to the chain oil reservoir to lube the chain.

The pressure pulses (pos or neg) will drive the very simple oil pump to lube the chain thru passageways and/or tubes between the "bar oil" tank and the engine case where the chain bar is clamped to the engine. There are crossing slots in the case and bar that allow oil to flow and the bar to be adjusted in/out to tighten the chain. An internal passageway in the bar from the crossing slot to the chain groove gets the oil to the chain. Always be sure to clean these passages with a copper wire periodically as they tend to get clogged with very fine wood shavings.

20hp kohler horizontal engine will make loud metal on metal chirping noise coming from the crank case after running for a period of time, seems like it could be an oil circulation problem. usually when I...

the chirping you hear is probably from a worn cam or valve lifter.
usually these engines use an oil slinger to throw oil around the crank case.
if the oil gets too low parts will wear away faster.
sorry to say but your engine has probably had it and is due for a rebuild.
always keep the oil at sufficient level and change it regularly

Park the Honda Foreman on flat ground and leave the engine running for 5 minutes to allow the engine to warm up. Place the oil drain pan under the crank case drain plug. Turn the engine off.

    • 2
Remove the drain plug from the under side of the crank case using the ratchet set. Allow the engine oil to drain into the oil pan. Replace the plug to the bottom of the crank case and tighten the plug using the ratchet set.

Remove the small screw from the side of the crank case using the Allen wrench. Remove the cap labeled "OIL" from the top of the crank case. Insert the funnel into the hole where the oil cap was.

    • 4
Pour Honda 4-stroke engine oil into the funnel until the oil starts to come out of the hole where the small screw was on the side of the crank case. Once the oil starts to come out of the hole, stop pouring and replace the screw. Remove the funnel and replace the oil cap to the top of the crank case.

How to change the crank case gasket briggs 23hp

Yes you need to drain the oil, turn the engine onto its flywheel, remove all the crankcase screws, clean the exposed crank to remove any rust or dirt, now gentlty ease the base off, it should come away with the oil pump gear.

My lawn mower started smoking-whitish, looked like it came from the carb. It also made some shaky noises like something was loose. Then it quit running. A while later I started it again-it started fine,...

Recheck your oil level. The smoking routine you mentioned sounds like the crank case is being over-pressurized from too much oil. That results in the crank case breather dumping oil into the intake of the carb. Then you see all the white smoke and hear the engine making odd sounds because of the excess crank case presure. Just re-check the oil level. There are 2 lines on the dip stick. The oil level should NOT be above the upper line with the dip stick fitted in the run position.

If you still have the problem please respond with an engine model number. If it is a Briggs and Stratton engine the number will be on the air shroud near the spark plug wire. Honda and tecumseh the number will be not far from the lower end of oil tube or next to the dip stick on engines without an extended tube stamped on side of the engine base.

Let me know if you still need help after correcting the oil serviciing level. There is more that can be checked..... just need that engine number.

The unit just started burning oil like crazy on start up. Tons of white smoke and oil coming out of the exhaust. Its a 4 stroke motor so im not sure what the problem is. Any help??

Remove the Oil Breather from the side of the engine near the base of the valves and clean it with both engine degreaser and carb cleaner. If the reed assy sticks on the breather the crank case will over pressurize and port oil into the breather. Also if the engine was over-serviced with oil it will present the symptom you describe. Sometimes a carb problem will allow fuel to leak into the crank case after sitting for a long time and the oil will have gas in the oil. Sniff check the oil. If it smells like gas you may also have a sticking carb float or float needle.

If you need more assistance just repsond here and I will help you.

Where do you add the oil on a DeWalt 3100psi pressure washer?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

From reading everything I can find, i.e User's manual & parts manual the only thing you add oil too is the engine. The pressure pump does not have a liquid sump.

You can look at parts here detail D:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/dewalt-dpd3100-pressure-washer-parts-c-1009_7440_7445.html

So too add oil to the engine you would remove the dip stick from the crank case located on the opposite of the side of the engine as the oil sensor.

I recommend you use 30 WT SAE oil for 3 oil changes then on the 4th oil change use an HD 30 WT oil. The oil drain plug is located in the center of the side of the engine crank case base. On the 5th Oil change switch back to SAE 30 WT oil. Oil brands are not really important. They all have to meet SAE the same standards to carry the label of SAE. (Yes you can use a generic 30 WT SAE oil )

Need to know name of hose that is just below upper radiator hose it has 3 connections 1)to the thing that hold oil filter 2)over by water pump and 3)connects to hose on rightside of engine just above oil...

That is still a little hard to say, because there are heater hoses and crank case ventilation hoses in that area. But the base beneath the oil filter is a cooler that has water lines to it. That sounds like the best bet. But you don't need a name. Hoses don't really have names. What you need is a description to give to a parts person. And that is most easily done with a cell phone camera. But you can draw a sketch instead. And the parts person will give you a name for it if you really want one.
