Hello pbufordjr,
WPS stand for Wi-Fi Protected Set-up .
According yo Wikipedia "The goal of the WPS protocol is to simplify the process of configuring security on wireless network, If your 2Wire router is equiped with that function it would be the BIG button on the bottom front of your router Look at this advertisement from 2Wire http://2wire.com/movies/pages/112.swf
Easiest fix is try another location in the house, unless the dead spot means no wireless signal any where. Then make sure the wireless is turned on in the router. Problem is really vague.
What happens when you try to connect the device? Any error-messages?
What does not happen?
If you connect it to the Windows XP system, can you still see the files?
The best solution is to reset the router. The easiest way to do this is to find the reset button, usually on the back of the router there is a pin hole button. Use a pin or pencil to push the button.
Be warned, any special settings will be lost, but most installations of home network routers such as the 2Wire Router/Gateway is the default settings. If you have other than the default settings, then contact the person/organization that set up the 2Wire for you, such as your ISP/Internet provider.
hi! first of all, let's try to make the broadband link light turn green. open any browser, go the modem's UI by typing gateway.2wire.net or homeportal/setup on the address bar, follow the onscreen instructions on running the system setup wizard. it should make the broadband link green now. for wireless connection, click on the airport icon, and select on the SSID or network name in the drop down menu. if ssid is not on the drop down menu, click on other. type the SSID in the network name field and wireless security is none. (SSID is the last 3 nos. of the SN)
ok, if you can log into the router at all, you should be able to go to home network, and halfway down will be the wireless configuration.
assuming it's set to default wireless security, there should be a network key writtten on a sticker on the bottom of the router: You'll need to enter that code in windows vista before it will allow you to connect wirelessly.
