How to clear error code

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.

Do you mean "unable to clean"?If it this follow this instruction.
Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device.You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code.If this code is 40,41 or 4F the print head is defective.If the error is 50 or 51 there is error in Purge unit and printer require service.If the error is 46 the waste ink tank is full.Follow this:Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. This is the Head Error 41

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement.
My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while if it is under warranty.
If it's out of warranty they are usually a throw away job, the heads cost as much as the printer.

Sorry I know what it feels like, just have a go and see what you can do, clean the heads and so on.

Display should read reinit for a few moments then redisplay maintenance
Press 9 9 to exit the maintenance mode

this is two ways for screen this error: 1. mechanical problems 2. absorber counter full If you don't hear ubnormal sounds from your printer, you must clear counter for absorber.

press menu then start b/k copy then fourtimes arrow-up (tel.index). machine will be in maintenance mode. press start b/k copy: What two digit error code does the machine display? Post here again.

To leave the maintenance mode press 9 then 9.

press menu then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow-up button. Machine will switch to maintaenance mode. You may have to press start bk-copy. The machine will display an error code.

Error code starting with 4 is always a defective print head which needs replacing (except error 46: new waist ink tank needed).

In case it is another error code plz post here again.

Please tell us what machine do you really have:
Is it a mfc 420cn or a mfc 5460cn?

Did you have a paperjam before getting the error?
This might be due to the paperjam.

Ill try to give you some more help but need more info...

Open the small cover that hides the scanner flat cable. It has to be reconnected to the main pcb.

Did you had lightning strikes or a high tension the days before? DF means that the faxmodem which is placed on the pcb is in disorder. The pcb has to be changed (sparepart is more expensive then a new mfc!)
