SOURCE: Unmountable Boot Volume
Hi everyone...my windows xp wouldn't start up at all..(unmountable boot volume).kept restarting with the blue screen...I had ** xp disk (came pre-installed)....finally was able to get to my files by downloading K**ppix to a CD and running that on my broken xp ...just downloaded it, ran it, and I was able to access all my folder/files that I didn't want to loose...**w I can use my recovery disks to get my computer running again..I would recommend this option to anyone with ** xp disk...it saved me from loosing important files that I needed...just thought I would share this with you since I k**w many pc's do NOT come with the windows disk these days....

put your xp disk in the optical drive.Turn off computer. Turn computer back on as soon as you turn it on start tapping f 12 constantly.it should go the boot menu giving you a choice of booting from cd or hard drive choose boot from cd.Be sure you choose repair rather than new installation or you could loose all your information stored on the hard drive,I personally would try safe mode first you can get to safe mode by tapping f 6 when you first turn on your computer.

This isnt necessarily a bios problem mate , its just windows got corrupted during the power surge. Use the link below to do a repair install. Note , repair installs do not erase your personal files or setings or software !
