Cheapest fix is new monitor sounds like blown diodes in the board to me.

try one thing this will tell you if there is a problem with the monitor or the system
start the system and go in to bios and than check out if u still loose display
and if yes than when u loose display disconnect the data cable of the monitor from the system and chk out if u see the self test on the monitor or not
the self test if the colour patern if u see that its nothing wrong with the monitor its ur system
if u do not see the colour patern ... monitor bad
if the colour patern is seen reseat the cpu heatsink , remove the display card (if any add on display card ) and reseat the memory cards
and if that doesnt work remove all the add on cards and than start the system on the onboard display
and than put the cards one by one u will get the culprit

there are several things which might resolve your problem.
attempt to get into safe mode (with f 8 at boot), and check device manager for problem devices.
insert the vista disk and boot, and attempt to "repair" windows, the boot sector particularly. there is usually a "repair" utility on windows disks which allows you to fix problems without completely reinstalling windows.
your computer may be infected by a virus. if you can get into safe mode, try a virus scanner called "avast" if that doesnt work, try "malwarebytes" or "combofix". these can be found by doing a quick google searc, just make sure you download them from reputable sites. you may have to use a seperate comoputer to download the programs.
if you cannot get into safemode, try the same anti-virus software suites, from a different computer, with your hard drive installed in that system as a "secondary" drive. if this is a laptop hard drive, laptop to desktop hard drive adapters can be purchased for around $20.

Cause of power going
off: There is a bad 1000uF, 16V cap
on the power supply board.
Solution: Replace cap. Radio Shack sells a 1000uF, 35V
cap for $2. This will work.
Why did the cap go
bad? The cap is too close to a heat
sink and over heated.
What does this cap
do? This cap sends a signal to an IC
which keeps the monitor 'on' after the power switch is pushed. When the cap is weak, AC ripple voltage is
applied to the IC and it sends a signal to shut the monitor off.
Opening the Monitor:
These monitors are difficult to open.
The two plastic pieces snap together and must be pried apart
with a flat screw driver.
After removing the stand, you need to insert a flat screw
driver at the bottom of the screen where two slots are located. Then work the screw
driver around until the two plastic pieces are separated.
Remove the cover plate and unscrew the push button circuit
board.
Unplug the monitor cords from the driver board and remove
the screen.
Unscrew the mounting screws from the power supply board and
remove.
You will need to pinch the plastic support in the middle of
the board to remove.
Cap Replacement:
Cap is located near a copper heat sink and the value will be
on the side of the cap. It will be bulged up on the top. You will see burn
marks on the board surrounding the cap. Unsolder the cap.
Install the new cap and solder. Make sure you connect + of
the cap to + marked on the board.
Be careful not to solder across joints.
Keep leads long so you can bend the cap as far away from the
heat sink as possible.
Reassemble monitor and turn on.
This should solve the problem.

The monitor is probably on protection.
To start unplug monitor
from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor
to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.
If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:
If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.
When on protection you keep having a flashing
led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while,
that indicates a fault condition.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.
1The
internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic
charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read
by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the
protection circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrong
voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in
, starting the flashing light.
If
you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging
power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.
Common
faults
that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter
board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.
Check also
the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you
can get same flashing state because of the video cable.
Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual
If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
