I have Compaq Presario SR1010V. When I turn it on, no display.

hit the fn key in blue and the f-button above number keys with the little monitor icon it will switch for internal to external display

The easiest route would be to install the new hard drive in place of the old hard drive and place the old hard drive below the new hard drive and make it a secondary hard drive or slave drive. Once you have them installed this way you can install Windows XP Home to the new hard drive once you have it installed to the hard drive then you can copy everything from your old hard drive to the new one. Once you have everything copied from the old hard drive you can then format it within Windows to have 33GBs of space to store anything you wish. If you need more detailed instructions don't hesitate to reply.

Fn+F1 Decreases the display brightness. Fn+F2 Increases the display brightness

Try disconnecting the A/C source.
Allow unit to set for 5 minutes.
Re-install power and restart uint.
If that does not work, Disconnect power and remover supply connections at the motherboard.
Allow to set for afew minutes, and re-connect.
Sometime, removing the connections at the motherboard, allows the supply to reset.
You should have a 4 pin video connection and a 24 pin main board connection.
Note. Make sure your power is disconnected before attempting this service.

1. Check if your battery is fully charge or if there is power in your Compaq Presario 900.

If the hard drive is is not damage maybe you can save all important files on it.

Please do the step by step troubleshooting of your laptop.
REmove the following:

1. Memory
2. hard drive
3. processor:
4. Battery

try this;
1. Fix some other connection inside the laptop
2. Insert AC plug then start the system.
3. shutdown the system
4. Insert the processor
5. swittch on the laptop.
If beeping; continue
step 3;
6 insert the memory.
7. start the system
8. If display, connect the harddrive.

in step 5: if not beeping:

Either board or processor is dead.


IN step 8.
9. start the system.
10. if the hard drive is detected, and cannot continue booting

Ouch! The answer to your question is yes. The hard drive inside the tower has all your information on it (regardless of the condition of the rest of the PC) and can be transferred to another computer by making it a 'slave' drive. Then the computer's main HD (also called 'master' hard drive) can usually read from it. Rest assured, your data is still there.
