SOURCE: CD player WILL NOT PLAY and does not recognize CD presence
HI. this is optical lens assembly failuer. the optical lens is burned out, in return, inducing the (no CD) message. simply replacing the optical lens assembly will fix this issue.

SOURCE: Arcam CD73 CD Player. CD player works fine but sound cuts out.
I too had this problem and was resigned to having the laser mech replaced.............BUT! i opened up my unit (it was long out of warranty) and was suprised at the amount of lubricant on the cog that drives the laser and the track upon which it runs.most of the grease had been pushed to either end of it's travel and as a consequence my unit would cut out particularly at the start and end of CD's as the laser struggled to move and track the disc as it should. Since removing this excess lubricant (with a dry toothbrush) i have enjoyed over six months of trouble free listening. From searching online forums it would seem that many people have experienced similar problems with this transport - a Sony KSM213CCM - and have replaced the entire mech! it would appear that someone a the factory has been a little over enthusiastic with the lubricant! Hope this fix is of help
