Question about Brother HL 5140 Laser Printer

Won't print from usb or parrallel cable

I have two Brother HL-5140 printers that have the same problem. They won't print anything from the computer via the usb or parrallel cable. They will print a test page using the control panel on the printer, but not through the controls on the brothers control program on the computer. Neither printer has any yellow or red lights. Both printers were used about twice a week for two years when they quit working. The computer recognizes the printers when attached through a usb cable, but nothing prints. Another Brother HL-5140 attached to the computer works fine.

Hi there

have you tried an internal test print.

Switch printer on and await steady state.

Then tap the big start key 3 times in rapid succession.

This should cause the printer to print out a configuration sheet. If it prints the there is no internal fault except for possibly the main board, If it prints OK check the internal seetings against the printer driver settings.

Try a different brother driver or an HP 4000 driver / pcl 5 or 6. You should get a printout.

Well what yu need to do is if the printeris printing a test page then the hardware is fine,its a concern with the drivers on the computer,just get it uninsatlled from the control panel>printers.Then restart the computer and try a plug and play.It should work

Check the usb sucket on the printer board and see if the legs are firm if ok check the board

How do you get a page count from an HL 5140/

On the HL-5140, you can print out a config page which will show the page count on it by pressing down the Go button (the blue button). Hold it for a few seconds, until the config page starts to print out.

Can I print w/just the USB cable?

No, the USB cable is sufficient. Besides, you may not have a parallel port on the printer. You should install the drivers compatible with your Operating System.
Usually you receive a CD-ROM containing the software you need to install. When you run the application it will normally install the relevant drivers.

If you have lost the CD-ROM just go to Brother Solutions Center (Google it). On the Map click/Select your region and enter the regional site. From the instructions. Download the software and install it on the computer before connecting the printer to the computer.

If you have several printers installed on the computer, You must select the one physically attached to the computer as the Default printer. If not, you will have to select the printer each time you print something.

I cannot get my brother HL-5140 laser printer to print anything!!!!!! I have tried all troubleshooting suggestions.light on status is red

There is some paper jam inside the printer .Please remove the cartridge and look inside the printer for paper jam. If paper jam is there , remove the paper . I hope it will help to solve the printer problem.

Our Brother HL-5140 is not printing. It doesn't

Replace the paper pcik-up rolly assembly. MAKE SURE TO get a good look at how the existing one is installed before removing it. It needs a little tweeking to get the new one in and everything lined up correctly.

Also replace the separation page on the paper tray itself.

Look for part number PF-1 Kit or OEM PART #: LJ7920001
The only diagrams I could find on-line of the inside of the printer I found by searching for "brother pl-prn067". Look at pages 8-9.

Yellow toner light and red status light on - won´t print. I had printed a few pages front and back turning paper over by hand

change your yellow toner insert new toner cartridge then solve your problem

"Drum" light is on.

Will not Print online Coupos

Just fixed my Brother HL-5140. Hope this helps :) I have struggled for years and finally figured this out from the Brother website.

If you are unable to print coupons from the Internet the print processor
setting in the driver needs to be changed. To change the setting,
1. Open Printers and Faxes.

2. Right mouse click on the Brother printer and left click Properties.

3. Click on the Advanced tab.

4. Click the Print Processor button.

5. Under Print Processor, select WinPrint.

6. Under Default Datatype, make sure RAW is selected. Click OK.

7. Back on the Advanced tab remove the check next to Keep Printed
Documents.

8. Click Apply and OK.

Try printing the coupons again.
