    Just a couple questions:
    - Do you use a mouse other than the built-in one?
    - Have you tried resetting the computer already?

When you press the power button do you hear a chime. If you do your monitor cable is probably loose. If you do not hear a chime there is a physical problem with the computer and you should make and appointment with the apple store to have it checked out.

My toshiba Satellite l455d-s5976 will power up but screen stays black. Now this problem has been reoccuring since maybe last week where my stepfather left it on and it locked itself. I tried to turn it on...

when the laptop is off hold the power button until 1) the screen goes on or 2) it turns on. if 2 then try connecting a monitor to the laptop and reboot.

My laptop was a gift xmas 1 year ago. when i turn it on there is a black screen and then there is this message ; it say sorry for this problen windows didn't start normally. then it gives me 4 or 5 choices...

#2 "safe mode with networking" will only work if you were attached to a local network and configured to boot from it. This is not the normal configuration for most users. The network they are referring to is NOT the internet.

You should try #1 and after it is booted try a restart [Start], [Shut down], then use the pull-down to select Restart. If once it

No screen

MOST likely the monitor is bad if you don't hear any beeps when booting up.

If you unplug the monitor the screen should say NO SIGNAL

The screen suddenly went black while connected to an electrical outlet. Nothing works.

Three immediate possibilities in order of expense:
1) Make sure the brightness is on. Press the F2 key.
2) Screen backlight could be blown out, especially if you can hear the disk seeking, fans, etc. even though the screen is black. Connect your Mac to an external display or TV using the appropriate adapters. If you get an image, you need a new backlight or LCD panel.
3) Entire machine is plotz, especially if you hear absolutely no chimes, disk movement, optical reset, fans, etc. This may indicate a power board or logic board issue.
