What should the CD's recording speed be when buying a blank CD-R/CD-RW for an Acer Aspire 5750-6677?

Rewritable CD-RW / DVD-RW media typically have lower recording speed (4X - 12X is common) compare to CR-R / DVD-R (20X - 50X is common).
The quality of the CD/DVD media is the most important factor: buying a well known brand blank media is always advisable.
The higher the recording speed for a specific brand the higher the price: that said, a CD/DVD with a high recording speed rating can always be used at a lower (and usually more reliable) speed.
If you are not burning CD/DVD everyday, then a cheaper 'slower' media, especially at an attractive price point, is OK.
ps. Be aware that writable CD/DVD media are not always readable/compatible in other devices (e.g. external DVD or CD players) ... even well known brand media can fail compared to lesser brands.

My dell d610 laptop has dvd/cd rw i want to know if this means i have dvd rw too if not what should i buy so that i will have dvd rw hopefully it will be something i just plug in this is my first computer...

Your built in CD Drive is a DVD player and regular CDR - CDRW burner, this means you cannot burn DVD's. To burn DVD's I would recommend you purchase an external DVD burner, here are some links to ones that are compatable to your computer.

Replacing a DVD ROM with a DVD RW in a toshiba satellite L25-S119

Because it is a toshiba laptop, you will need to buy a model-specific dvd drive for your laptop direct from toshiba, or at least from an authorized toshiba reseller. This is not something you would get from your local best buy.

You want something like this:
http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=2&product=3330

Order online, or select "Locate Dealer" and find one in your area.

My suggestion is to call up a dealer and verify that this model is compatible with your laptop, because yours is on the older side the slim select bays may be a little too small.

DVD/CD - RW Combo Drives

Any brand should work as long as you have the correct drivers.

Either IDE (internal) or USB (external) will work.
