I have a GE Microwave and while pushing button the keypad locked and i got the message CONTROLS ARE LOCKED - how do i get out of this? I can't clear it and the buttons don't respond to touch. Kelley

Try this,
Press and hold the "Clear/Off" button on your microwave oven's keypad for about three seconds.
Wait for the "L," which indicates the microwave is locked, to disappear from the display.
Open the microwave using the open latch button.

Sounds like a bad keypad. You will need the full model number off the microwave to look up the correct control panel part number. Sometimes these type of parts can be really expensive & it may make more sense to replace the microwave depending on the age and condition.

To clear the child lock, press and hold Clear/Off for 3 or more seconds. (This also toggles on the lock.)

Among them is a child safety feature that allows parents to lock the keypad. Though children can still open the door, the keypad lock prevents them from starting the microwave. The lock is in the form of a keypad code that renders the buttons inactive.

If keypad is locked, hold down clear button for 3 seconds to unlock keypad.

This is a built in safety feature called "Child Lock-Out" that allows you to lock or unlock the control panel to keep small children from manipulating the controls.

To lock/unlock, simply press and hold the CLEAR OFF button for 3 seconds.
