While I'm watching TV through my Yamaha HTR 3063, the video cuts out for about 2 sec but audio works fine. This happens about 10 times a day. My set up is as following, a outdoor coax cable to a HD dual tuner DVR then a HDMI cable to the Yamaha Receiver the a HDMI cable to my new Samsung Plasma TV. If I bypass the Receiver everything works fine. What could my problem be?

Hi,
Well, it can be one of two things:
a One of the HDMI cables or
b The receiver HDMI interface.

I have heard is said from more than one source that Poor HDMI cables are a headache, even if
new.

Here is a procedure you can try out.

1 Connect up the Plasma to the DVR directly with each cable alternately until
you find a defective one that demonstrates the same problem you are showing
with the receiver connected. If it doesn't manifest the problem go to step 2

2 Get a can of compressed air, such as the small cans sold for dusting out computers.
(about 5 dollars at Walmart). Visually inspect each of the HDMI connectors on the back of your receiver. You may find a pet hair that is the culprit. BLOW all the connectors clean with the can of air.

3 Reassemble you system and see if it still manifests the same problem. If it does, go to
step 4.

4 Time to find out if your warranty is still in effect with Yamaha. If it is, great, if not, Oh well.
Contact them anyway. They may still help you if it is very recently out of warranty.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

I contacted Yamaha support in Toronto ON - the tech said that HDMI handshake issues are common for all manufacturers. Standard suggestions were offered including changing the HDMI cables and making sure the said cables are as short as possible (HDMI has not error correction so long, cheap cables can introduce errors such as "sparkles" in the video image). So in my case its either live with it (which I have been) or get rid of the Yamaha receiver and buy another make hoping it does not do the same thing. I have a Sony LCD TV so I would assume/expect a Sony A/V receiver would work.

My HTR 3063 is not producing any sound

The YPAO isn't on the 3063 model. only 4063 and up. If this is used and you can't get your money back, there is a firmware file here http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?language=en&site=ca.yamaha.com&product_id=1436250 that can help get your receiver running correctly.

Strangely enough, that message is NOT documented in the HTR-3063 manual, but in another Yamaha manual (HTR-5063) it means the speaker being tested is believed to be Out of Phase, meaning wired incorrectly.
