Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

I do not have the wiring diagram but... the 2 wires that go to the top of the unit fray and break at the lid hinge point and cause this problem quite often. The 2 wires in the hinge area are for the upper temp sensor. (The floating plate in the top of the lid) If you fix the wires in the hinge area most of the time the come back to life unless the heating element has failed. The heating element will read about 180 Ohms resistance if it is good. The resistance changes a bit as the unit ages.

Try fixing the wires in the hinge then testing the cook button. I usually have extend the wires in the hinge and do a double splice for the NEW wire strip on each wire with heat shrink tubing over the repair.

If this does not work just respond here and I will assist you further.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

    Hi Kelly,
I also have the same problem as the first person (light stays on warm but doesnt cook). I have tested both blue wires to the upper temp sensor & they are fine (100% continuity).

How do I check the upper temp sensor itself? Do u know the part #? (i don't see part#)

What is the resistor looking part inline with the red power wire @ the bottom of the cooker; It's labeled 153 Celcius & 10 amps).

That is red power wire to a resistor looking part is actually a thermostat. It should have continuity below 153 deg C. The upper temp sensor / thermostat will also read continuity and cycles at a much lower temp. The upper sensor is the "keep warm" thermostast and the lower 153 C one is the "cooking" thermostat. If EITHER one of the thermostats fail the symptom will be:
Does not cook but will keep warm (Bad lower thermostat)
Does not cook at all. (Bad upper thermostat usually but can be an open heater element)
To check the upper thermostat you have to follow the wires from the upper sensor to the bottom of the unit and locate a probing point for BOTH wires. It should read continuity when it is at room temp. The heater will read some where around 30 ohms. If both thermostats and the heater read continuity you need to look for broken wires from the power cord.

Given you stated this: "Light stays on warm but doesnt cook" I am assuming your talking about the cook light. Most of the time there is a broken wire in the hinge area for the upper sensor. (Not always but most of the time.) An open heating element will do the same thing.

The heater element tested @ 21 Ohms (should be ok). The bottom thermistor inline with the red wire has continuity @ room temp (should be ok). The upper temp sensor itself didn't have continuity @ room temp (bad). However, the blue wires for the upper temp sensor is good (has continuity). Do u know the part# of the upper temp sensor, I don't see it on the temp sensor. And where can I purchase one? (Tayama won't sell it).

I do not have the part number for your upper thermostat but when you call the number below give them your model number and tell them you need the upper sensor that attaches to the inner lid.

I searched for quite some time via multiple sources to see if I could locate just the temp sensor without success. You will have to call Tayama.

    From Tayama:

Replacement parts including replacement inner cooking pans, measuring cups and spatulas may be ordered from our Customer Service Department by calling 1-866-982-9262, M-F, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. PST. Please have the model number ready when calling.

This should get you the replacment part. However.... you may have to purchase the whole inner lid with sensor.

    Hi Kelly,
Thank you for all the help. I contacted Tayama, but they will not sell me the upper temp sensor nor give part information. I don't have info about temp sensors to cross reference the original part.

    Hi Kelly,
Thank you for all the help. I have contacted Tayama, but they will not sell me the upper temp sensor nor any repair parts other than the inner cooking pan, spatula & measuring cup. I wish I knew the part number of the upper temp sensor so I can buy it somewhere else.

I am looking and have been looking since your post 2 hours ago. If I find the lid sensors... I will provide you with a source. So far it seems to be a huge challenge to find the piece part from any manufacturer. The search continues!

The piece you need is actually called the keep warm heater. I have found several 230V heaters.... and as of this moment not one 115VAV heater. I will keep looking but, it is not looking good at this time as far as finding the exact one you need for this TRC-10 rice cooker. It appears that Tayama is the sole source for parts and service. (Never a good thing when your hunting for parts!) Here is the kicker..... I have found sources that require me to order a minimum quantity of 500 pieces yet there is still no part number listed!

Unplug the rice cooker and the remove the cooker kettle. Push the steel button in the center of the rice cooker to loosen the spring. Plug the rice cooker without the kettle, the cook function must not be functioning. Plug it again with the kettle and push the cook switch to see if it working properly.
