Well assuming that you are using genuine HP ink carts and protective tape removed, it sounds like the ink carts are not seating well or the connections are dirty. This would cause the printer to not recognize the cart or think that it was reinstalled but not aligned. The age of the printer also makes sense.
otherwise,
Press and hold the Enter button, and then press Menu .
if still no luck, take out the cartridge and vacuum it.

As soon as you installed it, you prompted a change in the ink levels which will AUTOMATICALLY pop up on your screen when you are properly connected and attempt to print something. That is when you tell the system that it is a new cartridge. OR YOUR PRINT HEAD IS CLOGGED Brother printheads are very easily clogged with air bubbles so there is very high risk that refilling ink will damage your printhead. It is not worth it to save money on ink and wind up with danmaged or totaly nonfunctional printheads.

It sounds like the cartridge sensor is blocked. Remove the cartridge, clean the sensor, replace the cartridge and when the system prompts you, ensure to tell it that you have installed a new cartridge. When your print head is clogged from using REFILLED CARTRIDGES, you will get the same errors.

Peek inside where that ink goes, if the spring on the right is dangling, or has poked a hole in the ribbon cable at the rear, you will need to replace the carriage assembly. Complete replacement is far more affordable

HP 3n1 keeps printing out a

This happens regularly in some models when the alignment of paper is not done correctly. If the cartridge does not have a good print quality, the scanner can not correctly read the alignment and alignment repeated several times until you get it right.
Check the alignment with cartridges in excellent condition.

The magenta isn't printing correctly, and the printer keeps telling me to remove tape from the magenta cartridge. There isn't any tape on it. I've tried resetting it several times.

Its sounds as though the printer isnt picking up the cartridges properly, try removing it and cleaning the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer

Just replaced both ink cartridges on Kodak ESP 3. Will not recognize color cartridge. Both are genuine Kodak cartridges. Red light for color cartridge just keeps blinking. Have tried unplugging....

silly question, you remembered to remove the plastic film off the connectors right? i realize you did 2 different cartridges but hey sometimes thing get messed up lol. it may be a faulty cartridge, you should be able to return it if that's the case. the only way to know for sure is to take it back and get a different one. if that's the case problem solved, you could always power down the printer completely after installing the cartridges and rebooting it

Left Cartridge error on Lexmark X125

If you still have the old color cartridge, I would put it back in to see if the message goes away. It is likely that it is your new cartridge or something wrong with the housing that the cartridge is seated into. If you don't have the old cartridge, another new cartridge installed would determine if it is the cartridge or something to do with the housing. If after putting a different cartridge in the printer, you get the same message, then it is the housing.

Printing alignment problem

First thing to try is to remove the power brick (not just the cord the whole brick) from printer for a minute then re insert and try it again. If this doesn't help try uninstalling it then re installing the printer

Printer won't process new catridges. These cartridges have been refilled.

Did you install the original cartridge? if you have the old empty cartridge, try to install it and check the error is empty cartridge..if so the problem is the newly installed cartridge. try to buy the new original one.
